APPLE Blows
I download the 2.0 software update for my 1st gen iphone.
It installs, restores my info, and then says reconnect to Itunes.
Itunes has been giving me the same "timed out" message for an hour now. My phone is in "emergency only" mode until it connects to Itunes, WHICH IT WONT.
I can understand apple servers being busy today, but to freaking BRICK my phone until it connects to itunes, WTF APPLE. This is a joke I have to go to work without a functional phone and that is completely unacceptable.
Suck it, Apple.

I add:
Once my 2 year contract is up with this phone, I will never buy an Apple product again.

IPhone 3G: How to Fix iPhone and iPhone 3G Activation Woes
Give that a try.
**** sucks dhill. I'm getting tired of watching companies botch their launches by having servers go down.

Apple sucks for more reasons than just the one you stated. They used to make great products and operating systems. After the itunes music store and the change in processors they started to suck.

There's nothing stopping you from selling it... Just pull your sim and buy something else on ebay.

1. its a 1st gen iphone. the 2nd gen(3G) iphone makes this obsolete.
2. im locked into an "iphone data plan" for more than the normal data plan costs.
3. with the money spent on the iphone and continuing money spent on the data plan, it isnt economically intelligent to buy another phone(comparable w/ out another 2year plan, at least $400 or more)
i excuse your ignorance.
The phone is working now. What upset me was the process. For those activating NEW phones, i could see how they need to connect to Itunes. But for the millions like me that already had one and were simply updating, why should we be locked into a process that Apple didn't plan for?
Thankfully I am not in sales or have my phone linked to my microsoft exchange activesync account or anything like that, because then i could lose clients, sales, and be out of touch for an entire workday. To many im sure that was financially harmful, and Apple will have legal repercussions im sure, and deservedly so.
From people involved with AT&T(i work at a tech company now, so its cool to be in the loop about certain stuff). AT&T has been telling Apple for a long time now that they need to ramp up their service and support. Apple didnt think they needed to. The almighty Apply got caught with their pants down today and they will hurt because of it. Don't get me wrong I love my iphone, but these days where connectivity is at times crucial, I will not trust my job, contacts, clients, potential sales, and everything else to a company who was so naive about customer service as Apple was for today.
Research In Motion(Blackberry) will most likely get my business after this contract of mine is up...unless Apple can somehow gain my trust that they will NEVER allow this to happen again. They will ahve to fully disclose why and how this happened and what they plan to do to prevent it in the future. Apple, are you listening? Full disclosure will be your friend on this one. Anyone in business will avoid Apple like the plague for fear of losing their connectivity even for one day, which is a long time in today's workplace.

What's the dif? In both cases, your computer in bricked. I do not buy apple for reasons stated above, when the went on the huge resurfacing from a dying company to one of the greats, their products rocked because they had to. Now that they are huge, they will put **** out and "upgrade" later, just like every other major company, because they know no matter what, people will buy it regardless.

Well the blackberry network has seen day long service downtimes a few times in the last year. It's not exactly solid either.

on full websites, the phone is slow. more and more iphone-specific websites are coming up(less bandwidth, optimized for the iphone) that are just fine on the EDGE network.
I wouldn't mind a 3G connection though!

some people are for some reason apple fanboys where in their minds apple can do little or no wrong.

True...but RIM didn't lock people out of their own phones and contact lists/address books. If I could have gotten into that, I wouldnt have minded so much. To completely lock me out of my phone sucks.

Well I like my iPhone so far. What I don't understand is that I bought a used iPhone, set it up through iTunes, but now I'm in a 2 year commitment? I could have gotten a 3G phone for the same price and been in the same commitment.

Ya thats some garbage.
But it really isnt all that bad, cuz you keep the same phone plan, whether its a family talk or something else. Really the only thing that would change is the data plan(if you already have unlimited data($15 a month), its up to $20 a month for the iphone. $30 for the iphone 3G. $10 difference for 2 years actually makes the iphone EDGE $40 cheaper over 2 years(at full price)
