Mass Effect is a must. Orange Box is really only worth playing on PC. The Darkness was an interesting game. I liked Bioshock as well, but I agree, definitely worth playing on a nice, hd setup.

I picked up Bioshock, I'm only about 20 minutes in to it so far, but I'm sold, it looks like its gonna be really good.
I went to blockbuster yesterday and got some used games, buy 2 get one free deal.
so now ive got
Assassin's Creed
Unreal Tournament 3
Lost Planet
Call of Duty 4
Battlefield: Bad Company
Medal of Honor: Airborne
FEAR
FEAR Files
Bioschock
Fear is pretty out dated now, but I always wanted it before but couldnt play it on my laptop, and it was only like 10 bucks. Seems like a decent collection so far. I might try and find Call of Duty 2 and 3 for used cheap. and probably gears of war , again used and cheap. But yeah, unreal tournament is by far my favourite so far, that and assassins creed.
Ive heard mixed things about Mass Effect..
I dont think ill get get gta4, its a fun game and all, but I never play the missions and Id get bored of it pretty quick. a couple friends have it, so I just play some rounds there. Im looking to grab rainbow 6 soon though.

ive heard mass effect is love/hate for people. i loved it....a lot.
if you pick up rainbow six vegas 1/2 before gear of war....GoW will seem outdated after playing rainbow six. Rainbow six, while the story isnt nearly as cool a story as GoW....the gameplay and movement is much smoother and more refined. suggestion: buy and play gears of war then buy and play the vegas games

I hated both of them.
The only reason I beat GoW was because the day I got my 360 I got GoW with it. So me and my friend beat it in way less than half a day.
I attempted the multiplayer but it was soooo boring. The levels were absolutely lame. The weapons were mediocre. They tried way too hard on the wall clinging / bunker type engine.
The Chainsaw just worked when it felt like it.
If I were to rate the game itself it would be maybe a 5/10 and thats pretty generous. Multiplayer...1/10.

My cousin has a 360. he has crackdown, Halo 3, Forza 2, CoD4, and a bunch of others. The only one that ever interests me is CoD4. Nothing quite like putting claymores behind an enemy sniper, backing off, then popping a few rounds into the air. damn, i really wish i could see that killcam
as for alone in the dark:

Any of the NFS games are awesome, I especially loved Most Wanted.

dhill said it right- you either love or hate Mass Effect. I personally can't stand RPG's as a general rule, especially the MMOs, but I loved Mass Effect from the get-go. The game is oriented towards combat, but the story is so good that it doesn't make you feel like you're playing a shooter.
I liked it because of the KOTOR dialogue/story system, which makes the game that much more worthwhile and replayable, even if there is no multiplayer. You can explore off the beaten path and those things you discover actually contribute to the big picture of the story.
Plus they're coming out with downloadable content- the first one they've released is an extra side mission, pretty sick.
Just rent it- you will know if you like it or not within the first 30-45 minutes. That way you don't waste the cash if you don't like it.

^^agreed (actually just finished the kotor series, i can't believe i missed those when they first came out). try it out, and if you love it, get ready for 40+ hours of goodness.
GoW was a mindless distraction. but a good one. it plays like a very 'cool' game. the combat system is where it stood out, it at least attempts to do something different... and i think it pulls it off well. just don't expect much else out of it.

saints row and saints row 2 (when it comes out in october) are a must
splinter cell is a awsome game kept me on the edge every minute
gears of war is still very good and i still enjoy a little halo here and there.
bioshock is awsome also i only played the demo but.... WOW
also go pick up condemned criminal origins. By far probbly the best and most realist game to come out on the 360
