Barrel Wobble

Hey guys. I own a tippmann 98c and for some reason (unlike any other 98c i'v seen) all my barrels wobble a little! I do have O-Rings on my barrel so that's not the case. My receivers are screwed on as tight as they can go too. Could anyone please find a solution that would elimate my barrel from wobbling? Thank you.

I know it sounds obvious but - have you tried tightening the barrel really really hard?

When I first got my Teardrop it wobble ever so slightly - not enough to see with your eyes but enough to feel with your hands. I checked it 3x to make sure it was tight, but it took a fourth very frustrated "hulk smash" twist to get it to sit still. Ever since then it screws in easily and snugly.

I have no idea why.

The only reason I can think of is the same as SKA's...thew barrel in all the way and screwed as tight as it will go? I cant even thihnk of anything else other then the threads being stripped somewhat and its giving it a little 'play'

you using the stock barrel?

try oiling up the threads every time you put the barrel on. it will go in easier.

its 3 different kinds of barrels. I'v tried tightening them as hard as i can; yet I still have them wobble, where u can feel it when u shake the gun, but u can barely see with your eyes.
Should i have the gun cocked when i screw in the barrel, so the front bolt is out of the way?

doesn tmatter about the bolt......it must be the threads in the gun...

you could try some teflon tape on the barrel to fill in the space between its threads and the gun's if the guns threads are too big. either that or find a bigger o-ring.

alright i'll try some of these suggestion. Thanks guys
I was just curious about the front bolt getting in the way, b/c maybe the barrel isnt screwing all the way in because of it. *Shrugs* just a thought

It could be factory defect - a small variation in the internal threads that stops a full on torque. Tell Tippman - maybe they'll send you a new clamshell for free if you trade em yours.

Yeah, I had a body that did that. I have 6 98's so I just tried my barrel on a different gun and there was no more wobble. Mind you, that wobble affects your accuracy, so you really need to get it fixed.

Mine was a result of a hitting the barrel sideways on a tree and it did something to the thread housing like bend an edge of it out. Now that gun has a wobbly barrel, but it's only noticeable with anything longer than the stock barrel.

i think i F***ed it up by putting that god forsaken flatline on it (personal opinion) the thing wouldn't go in, so I took a rubber mallet to it (like the manual said) that or maybe that one time i was having a all out battle with my friend and i ran out of air. I got so mad and frustrated, I strangled myself with the suspenders and 4+1 pack. then I unscrewing the co2 from the remote line while it blew the rest of the co2 everywhere like a fire hose. Then i just dropped everything on the ground, not realize i was standing on rocks. Then... spear doubled my friend and we wrestled on the ground. lmao. Good times =)

Well that explains it...I kinda figured it was the internal threads...maybe with enough teflon tape you could fix it?

Mine did tht, i just loosened the screws near tht end of the gun a little, then screwed the barrel in tight, and tightened the screws. I guess the threads were slightly misaligned between the two halves, so when i screwed it back tight, it realigned them. Hope this helps

How old is your 98c? how old is the barrel? i know they changed the threading a little while ago. More specifically what is the serial number on your 98c?

Barells.. who knows when they're made. No way of telling now is there? =\. One is a 14" Nyte Stick. Bought that about 2 years ago. The other one is a tru-flight whisper 21" bought... 1-2 months ago.
The gun is about 2 years old.

That is the patent number of the 98c. The serial number is below that above the trigger, it may have worn off by now (mine is half worn off). With a quick google search i found this, which explains what im getting at.

Tippmann recently had a new mold made for manufacturing the 98 Custom receivers. The new receivers have a slight change made to the barrel threads. All guns with serial numbers above 495,501 will not accept the old style barrels. All barrels being manufactured now have the new style thread. All new barrels will fit either the new or old receiver. If you have recently purchased an aftermarket barrel with the older style threads, they will not fit the new receiver.

No that the patent number. Look for a 6 digit number more towards the middle of the gun on the same side as the patent number.

Thats close, but Im almost positive that you have the older threads. I believe the change was at 495,500-ish. And please never take a rubber mallet to your marker again

Try what was mentioned earlier about loosening the front bolts and screwing the barrel the rest og the way in then retightening the bolts. I have to do that on my flatline adaptor.
