Yes it can.
Tippmann tries to tell you to buy an upgrade kit to low pressure, but it isn't needed. All markers can work with Compressed air. Don't worry.

y would they make it if it didn't have a use
no2 tanks have high pressure so that can warp and grind ur internals incliding the walls of ur reciever. it may work without one but i still wouldn't do it.

Why wouldn't you do it, or better yet why would something break? Stop and consider that the output of a CO2 tank on a hot day might exceed the pressure of a HPA system, and that under normal conditions they have the same output pressure.
The LPK has a use- it can be more gentle on paint, letting you use brittle shelled paintballs. It may be slightly quieter, and it may lessen the kicking of the marker slightly as well. Very few people feel that this is worth the money it costs for the kit.

a slight increase in quietness and kick (less kick), along with the ability to use EXPENSIVE paintballs is not worth $100. and if anything, co2 is the gas that will warp and grind your internals, as you said it, even though that would never happen. on a very hot day, co2 can be put into your gun at pressures over 1000psi, while most nitro tanks have around a steady 850 psi output no matter what the temperature is.
