Replacing my spyder
hello, haven't posted here in awhile but I have a question about what you're opinion is on something...
My spyder uses those evil plastic elbows to hold the hopper on, well the elbows keep breaking and I'm getting sick of it. I must have broke 20-30 of them already.
I'm thinking of getting either an A-5 or 98c.
As far as I know the main upgrade the A-5 has over the 98c is the cyclone feed. Is this worth the extra $$ to go for the A-5 instead of the 98c?
I don't plan on upgrading whichever gun I get very much, a new barrel and maybe a drop.
I already have a 12v revvy so if I get the 98c then I should be fine.
Thanks for the help!

Although this is the Tippmann forum and all, I want to point this out.
I'm guessing you have an Imagine, with the vertical feed. If so, You can buy a metal feedneck for your spyder that will clamp the hopper inside of it. You'll no longer need the plastic elbows.
Why buy a new gun when you can eliminate the problem you're having for like $20?
To answer the question asked though, no I don't think the cyclone feed on the A-5 is worth the extra cost over the 98.

Ok so I could get a new feedneck.
Normally I would do that but I'm planning on handing this gun down to a younger cousin anyway so i'm going to end up with a new gun either way.
I don't really want a cocker or anything like that since I think it will be too much gun for me. I only play every other week and only as a rec player so i don't really need a high(er)-end gun.
I'm most likely just going to end up with a 98c and my revvy, unless I can find a screaming deal on an A-5.

if youre getting rid of your currect spyder imagine and getting a new gun anyways, why not just buy another spyder imagine? the new ones look really sweet, and theyre about $35 cheaper than a 98c, and shoot alot faster. iono, just a suggestion.
you can make a 98c as fast as the imagine bps-wise with some home mods and a response trigger, but by the time you get there, you will have spent $250 on your gun. it will be more dependable and probablly give you better performance, but if youre on a budget it isn't realy an option.
so if you get a new spyder imagine, get a *clamping* feedneck also, these hold your hopper alot better because they fit exactly to the size of the neck on your hopper.

I kind of wanted a mechanical gun. I like the way the tippmann feels, the front grip feels much better IMO than the Imagine's grip.
jeez, I think I'm making up excuses to get a 98c...
I play mainly woods, and I kind of like the tippmann.
AARRGH it's no use, I'm just going to get the 98c. Theres no good in denying it...
I want a tippmann.

thats still a good choice, you won't be dissappointed. and at least if you decide to deck it out later, there are tons of different upgrade paths you can choose to follow. i didnt really know if you were a woodsballer or speedballer, for woods i would say tippmann hands down, but in speedball you would probablly want the imagine.

I like the 98 custom i have it is fun making your own parts for it and easy to do like i am in the process of making a double trig.
I recommend the 98c over the a-5 because the A-5 is a gas hog and as long as you get an lectronic hopper for the 98c it can shoot just about as fast for a cheaper and more air efficiant price.

Hold out until you can get the Pro-E 98. It's electronic like the Imagine was, almost identical to the A-5 E-grip, but factory installed.

I would but I want a mech. gun.
I'm just a weekend player who doesn't need that much firepower. I'd like to conserve as much paint as possible so a mech gun will force me to fire slower and take more time to pick my shots.
No offense, I think electric guns are great but I would just like to have the simplicity of a mechanical gun.
Also, whats a way to keep glasses from sliding around when I'm playing? I need them to see but when I play and my face starts to sweat they slip down the bridge of my nose.
thanks again for the help!

nah, the A-5 wastes gas, my friend got rid of his for the 98 cause they aer more efficient and the cyclone is the only good part of the A-5.

I'd sacrifice 20-45 shots for the A-5's rate of fire and other capibilities anyday.
there are things you an do to your gun to get those shots back and then some. so I'd still say go with an A-5. 98c are nice but i like A-5's much better.

Mechanically, without the cyclone feeder the A-5 is basically the same as the 98c. With an electric hopper, the 98 is on par if not above the A-5. If you factor in the money you save not buying the A-5, the difference is greater still.
I'm not sure about the glasses though. My mask is good at grabbing onto mine, so I don't have that problem. Contacts are probably the best thing, but I don't care for them at all.

I had contacts but they irritated my eyes, so i just went back to my glasses.
I was thinking of one of those things that grip the ear pieces and wrap around the back of you're head.
As for the gun problem, it is now solved. Thanks for everyones help. I'm going to buy a used 98c off of a friend and just use my 12v revvy on it.
