Why would a tippman be bad in speedball?
My friend is intent on getting a 98c, but we're going to play more speedball now. Me, I'm getting an autococker. I tried to convince him to get a different gun, but he asked me for proof, and I had none. Other than the "Slow, shoots slow, bulky..." But why would a tippman 98c be bad in speedball?

Its great for recspeedball, and If he wants to play tourneys he can upgrade it. Only down side is that tippies are generally expensive to upgrade

they are slow, heavy, long, need major ups to get them to preform for speedball, unless you mean like recreational speedball then go for it Tippmann's are great rec-ball guns.

The only complaint about using my 98c for speedball is that it weighs about 15 pounds with the hopper//tank and it's pretty long.

Heavy, Slow as hell, needs upgrading to get decent accuracy, fugly as mess, etc.
its just not speedball material. Why spend the money on an tippman with maybe a new barrel and a few other small things, when you could get an ion. Just no point...
yes, ive had to play with a tippman in speedball before, and it was terrible. Reliable, no problems, but it was just too slow and i couldn't get the feel at all for leaning and such.

Ok, they’re not slow as hell, people just like to regurgitate what the person above them says if they have a higher post count, or have been here longer. Or they’re just plain ignorant!
Tippmanns are generally looked at as recball markers and scenario markers. Keep in mind boys and girls that recball does not mean woods ball 100% of the time. Recball also includes speedball. Tippmanns can be used in both, but they have some not so accepted specs.
Tippmanns are longer then most speedball markers. This generally isn’t a problem if you work with your marker enough. The only problem is more of the marker is exposed, and if you do marker hits count, then you’re going to have a disadvantage vs.. the guy with a cheapo spyder.
Tippmanns are not slow by any means, they’re just not electronic out of the box. You throw a double trigger on there and get your fingers fast enough, the you can rip along with the best of them. Too many kids rely on electronics today to get their speed. Mechanical is way more reliable, but it takes more skill on the user’s part to hang with the electro boys. It can be done though.
Tippmann upgrades aren’t more expensive then other marker’s upgrades, that’s just a heaping pile of horse dung. You have to know what upgrades to get, and not waste your money on the useless ones available. That’s true of all markers!
Bottom line is this. Tippmanns can be used in speedball, but they’re generally accepted as woods ball markers. Don’t bad mouth them because you dislike them, just accept that people use them, and that any paintball marker can be used in any style of play if you’re skilled enough.
Be careful who you listen to in the paintball world my friend, there are too many new guys running around spitting out propaganda. Talk to the experienced players, and make sure they’re not bias.

Let's put it this way. The only good thing about having a tippmann in speedball is that if you need to touch the start bunker off the break, tippmanns are long as hell so you have a advantage of about 3 feet.

if you say they are slow you can eat my ass out! if you get an r/t and lp hoses, you will be shooting 23bps, faster than the ion which looks like a dildo anyway.

only tippmann i would take on an airball field would have a vert feed and a WAS board (like the ones fusion use for 7man (as tippmann effect) and rythym (tippmann xball) use for xball)

i tried my tippmann a5 at a local speedball field. Worked great....didnt give me any problems. In fact, i was doing pretty good in the snake with it. Very accurate with the right barrel and paint. If used properly, any gun can be suited for any game....whether it be scenario or speedball....

I thought that was funny as well.
Cockers are cool, and Tippmanns are not, but Tippmanns are capable of firing FAR faster, and are FAR more reliable, and have FAR fewer things to "screw up", and can use CO2 without issues.
Accuracy and range is identical between the 2 guns, so if I was on a limited budget, a Tippmann would be a far better choice as a speedball gun then anything else in its price range.
But, if you wanted to sacrifice some reliability, go with a junky e-spyder with a Egg and you could shoot just as fast as most $1500 guns.
