greetings,
When metal is fabricated, they are slightly rough on the outside. Polishing just means to make things smooth again. While putting them in the sink and scrubbing away will polish some things, metals in paintball markers it won't.

Basically you polish metal by using incredibly fine sandpaper, emery paper, or steel wool.

Traditionally it is bolts and the inside of breech that would get polished. This would reduce friction, increase efficiency and make the parts work better then intended.

I personally have never polished the workings of a Tippman, but perhaps there is someone here that can help you. I would PM Torch, who is the mod of this section. I am sure he will steer you in the right direction.

Here's our guide on the process, with pictures:

How to Polish the Rear Half of a 98, 98c, and 98 Pro

Mortisdeum (author of the guide) is a pretty good dude with a Tippmann, he should be good for answers if you have questions.

Of course if you do I encourage you to post them here so that other people can contribute and we'll all learn something.

After the sanding, where he uses the optional toothpaste, I use Mother's aluminum polish or Mag polish I think its called now. Toothpaste works good though, and well...You probably already have that.

Is there a point to polishing the front half? I don't think the front bolt comes in contact with the shell.

I did it just because I was in there and figured I might as well.

The front bolt is plastic and rides on that little O-ring. Not much contact.

If its really rough in there though you might want to hit it lightly.

You can ignore it easy enough as well.
