Tippmann Sierra One

Hello Hello,
I am a nub at PB, so excuse my lack of knowledge and expertise. I hope this is the right place to post this: Would The tippmann Sierra One be a good gun for someone new? I have read that its reliable, you can have a decent amount of customization/upgrade capabilities and it is inexpensive (190 where i live with no attachments/hopper/tank etc). Up till now I have gotten all the info from reviews, youtube and manufacture websites so I want to know what the more professional type of people think. What I would prefer is a reliable gun, that doesnt need much fiddleing (again i am new), that looks somewhat real, that can have a decent amount of attachements, thats fairly accurate and has decent to good maneuverbility. From all that I have read so far this Marker would suit all the criteria well. I also don't really care about firing modes, Semi will do it for me, probs will make me a better shot too. What do you guys think?
Thanks in Advance.
Dan

Again excuse my noobish thinking

well basically the siera one is a 98 with a different shell and more expensive pricetag. since 04 tippmann changed hands and started producing stuff in china, at the same time they changed some stuff on the markers to cut costs on their end, power tubes are made of plastic now and sears dont last as long as they used to. its not crazy but they are no longer the tanks they used to be, they are about as reliable as the rest of the entry level category but the stigma of them being tanks has stuck around

ok attachments, all useless, no joke, they are just added weight that wont do a thing except empty your wallet and make Tippmann happy.

for the marker, i highly suggest you take a good look at the spyder electra. at $160 it is not only cheaper than the tippmann but it has a whole host of features that the tippmann does not, as long as you do regular maintenance will be just as reliable and in its base design is shorter and much easier to work on

that will however mean you sacrafice the look but gain a titanic load of features and performance. if the look is super important to you take a look at the spyder MR series markers, still more features than the tippmann, not as many as the electra and a little more expensive

above all though get a good mask first, try on a bunch at your local shop and buy one that fits you right and has a thermal lens so you wont have any issues with fogging

if your budget allows it go straight to HPA

and again if it allows it look into a forcefeeder, invert halo too is a fantastic starter that will be a great loader for years even if you upgrade to a different marker

Are there any brands that sell MAG fed PB Markers under $350?

I think Tiberius has some configurations around that price but you will spend a fortune on magazines for it. If you want to know what the more experienced players think most of us don't think too highly of the "real" looking markers at all. I know they look cool and fun to use but you sacrifice a lot of the maneuverability and features of a less "real" looking marker. A good tip is to always keep in mind that paintball is paintball and not Call of Duty. You are shooting paintballs and not bullets. Spend your money wisely on the best paintball setup you can afford and you will do much better on the field than if you spent your money on the most "real" looking marker you can afford.

i 100% agree with that, paintball markers are not guns so why bother dressing one up like one. mag fed for example, you are limiting yourself to maybe 20 shots before reloading, meanwhile the guy you are in a firefight has 200 before he needs to reload

everything, and i mean everything that makes a firearm better makes a paintball marker worse, they are two very different worlds that only have a trigger in common

That was perfectly said, i really like that. Yeah you guys are right, IDK i was just having some thoughts go through my head, I just dont like the markers that look like a barrel with a grip and trigger attached to it, idk but to me it looks just......crappy? IDK, what do you guys think of the Spyder MR1, Spyder 09 Pilot with eye and the Spyder XTRA 09 markers? I iam quite interested in those, any thoughts for a noobie beginner gun?
Thanks for the input so far, I really appreciate it. Trbo323, mind if I put ur quote into my SIG?

not at all, go for it

pilot with eye is good but id still go electra over it, its only a few bucks more and has a reg and a on/off asa over the pilot, it would cost you more to get those from the aftermarket if you wanted them down the road

personally i like my paintball stuff to look like paintball stuff which means about as far from a firearm as possible, if that means its a grip frame and barrel then so be it. something that looks like a real firearm just looks like a PITA to carry around the field all day to me

for the electra can you put a butt stock on it? and maybs a longer barrel (increasing acuracy if needed). if yes then i might go for that, what type of tank and hopper would fit with it (not the super fancy expensive stuff plz)

you can always put a butt stock on a co2 tank, most people dont bother, the tank is already there and can be used as a stock

as for a barrel, longer does not mean better, the barrel to paint match is what you want, gennerally stock barrels espeshally on low end stuff is a large bore so it will work with any paint. for a barrel find something from 12-16" anything over that and you are carrying around extra barrel for no reason, under that and you have to start sacrificing porting usually. but between 12-16 there is no performance difference its all personal preference. i recomend you look into the J&J ceramic, $30 and a fantastic barrel (seriously id take one over pretty much any other non-kit barrel out there)

if your on a budget a 20oz co2 will work fine, however you will want to make the switch to HPA at some point, it will be more consistant, better for your marker and arguably more accurate

for the hopper, if you can still find a magna at $50 it is a fantastic deal, if not a $70 halo too is a slightly better hopper at a decent price that will last forever

The Project Salvo(Sierra One) was my first gun, and i still use it today. But personally I would listen to this guy, he seems to know a bit more.

<EXCEPT!>
the spyder electra at $160 is not cheaper. The salvo is only $150

ok, now throw a $100 e-frame on it to make it at least somewhat comparable to the stock electra

in order to get the same level of performance out of any inline blowback it is either more expensive stock or you have to upgrade it out of the box to make it more comparable to a electra

actually this is true of anything, if you take lets say a stock 98, nothing special and a spyder victor, both mechanical blowbacks the victor is $80, the 98 is what like $150? double the price, and the victor is going to have a double trigger stock not to mention be a better base design (smaller lighter easier to work on)

you wish azn. if i have issues with STBBs though you are the first person i come to. most things i have learned here but some stuff, like figuring out the bolt on your DM6 has warped and is not sealing correctly were all on my own (took me like 2 months to figure that one out though)

im thinking i may need to put your quote in my sig as well, im running out of room in my sig though
