good question, if you could tho i dont think the paintballs would break on target because they would be going somewhat slow

First thing you would need to do is figure out how to keep the paintball in the chamber. I'm pretty sure paintballs float.

if u get cheaper paint it wont float, and tippy's are usually all mech, unless u have an electro kit for em, so you dont have to worry about that, yes it should be able to fire underwater, but you'd have to make sure u dried it off VERY good before u put it away..... most likely though the paintballs will break once u pull the trigger, because of the water...

wheres XJ or anyone else for this... this was brought up a while ago and turned into a big flamming war...
if i remember correctly we all kinda agreed it could be done (with certain water proofing precautions) but you would loose so much velocity it owuld be pointless (assuming the marker was COMPLETELY submerged and firing into the water or the paintball had to travel through water to get the surface)

The water would probably slow down the rear bolt so much that it probably wouldnt have enough force to operate the valve and if it did fire it probably wouldnt have enough force to recock. But you wont know until you try!

Having actually mulled this over before...
The marker will cycle under water, no problem. The thing is that the second the paint gets wet you have issues with it swelling and breaking up, you'd need to completely water proof AT LEAST the front half of the gun. This means keeeping water out of the barrel, chamber, and feed tube. You can't use an electronic hopper as the water will cook them. There's more too...meh, you get the point, like most things, it can be done but would be helaciously impractical.

even if u were able to actually shoot the paintball...it wouldnt work. Paintballs weigh like 1 gram, that is no where near enough to give the paintball enough momentum to travel under water.
it would just cmoe out the barrel...stop and sink to the bottom
No paintballs doe not float, they are filled with a thick goey liquid...which is more dense then water. So it will sink.

I'm not sure about that. Oil is more dense then water, and it still floats.
And don't paintballs have quite a bit of oil in them?
I'm gona do a test...
*edit* Ok, you were right, the paintball didn't even try to float.
