I am doing this for the Tippmann 98 Custom. I used to have one. If anyone else wants to add an A-5 upgrade section, feel free to do so.

Ok, you get your Tippmann out of the box, hook up some air and shoot some paint through it. You will soon realize there are certain things that you don't like. This happens with all guns, not just Tippmanns. You decide to run inside and look online to try and find upgrades for your new marker. You look around and realize that there is a lot of different things for your gun. Here are some of the most common upgrades.

First you will want to improve accuracy. Face the facts, Tippmann could have done better on the stock barrel. You will find a lot of barrels at the $40 area. The J&J Ceramic, Smart Parts Teardrop and Progressive, and the CP 1 piece. These are all very good barrels. I personally went with the CP 1 piece and was not dissapointed. Very nice barrel. For around the $80 area you will see the Dye Ultralight and the Dye Boomstick. You will also see the Tippmann Flatline barrel system. These are kind of iffy. Some people love them while some people hate themm While these are good barrels, I do not reccomend them for a Tippmann. I would stick with the $40 barrels.

*The second thing you will want to buy is an expansion chamber. The expansion chamber gives the CO2 room to expand into its gaseous form. Liquid CO2 can hurt your gun. An expansion chamber also will give you more shots from your tank. You will find your gun more consistent at the cronograph also. In order to use the expansion chamber you will need a verticle adaptor. Tippmann sells an adaptor and an expansion chamber. I reccomend the Tippmann expansion chamber.

*If you use nitrogen or HPA, disregard that whole paragraph about expansion chambers. Regulators will be covered later in this thread.

The third thing I reccomend is a drop forward. The Tippmann is very long. The drop forward will shorten it. I cannot really reccomend and certain drop. You will have to try them out and see which one is more comfertable for you. Drops come in all shapes and sizes. Pick the one that is right for you

After a while you will find out that the paintballs will sometimes jam in your gun. The cure for this is simple, an electronic hopper. To keep up with your Tippmann you won't need a Halo or anything like that. A simple Veiwloader Revolution or Empire ReLoader is perfect. They will keep up fine and prevent jams.

The next upgrade is more of a preferance upgrade than anything else. The double trigger. You really have to shoot both and see which one is more comfertable for you. Some people say they can shoot faster with a double trigger. Some say they are faster with the stock single trigger. Shoot both and see what you like. Tippmann makes a nice double trigger.

The next thing I reccomend is a Rocket Cock. This fits over the the back part of the bolt (the part you pull back to cock the gun) to prevent any dirt to get in there. This is a relativley cheap upgrade and well worth the money. If you get some dirt in there it can ruin your whole day of paintball.

Well it is finally time for you to take the leap of faith and get a Nitro tank. If you love your gun you will get Nitro. As you probably know, Nitro is much cleaner than Carbon Dioxide. You will see better consistency with Nitro over CO2. It is expensive but well worth it. I would stay away from steel tanks. Steal tanks are very heavy and are not big enough. You will get only around 400 shots off of a 47/3000. I would go with a 88/4500. This will give you enough shot per fill and will be lighter than the steel tank.

Along with the Nitro you will need a regulator. This will do as its name states, rgulate the air flow. As with the expansion chamber you will need a verticle adaptor. Tippmann makes their own reg, but I reccomend the Bob Long Torpedo or the Palmer's Fatty. Both are very good regulators.

As you get more and more into paintball you will see that other guns are a lot faster than yours. So you, as with everybody in this situation, want to be faster. There are 2 options here. The Reactive Trigger, and the E-bolt. I personally like the RT better. The E-bolt really isn't that much faster than the RT. Some people say they have hit 23 ball per second with the RT trigger kit. Either one of these will be a big hit to the wallet. You can get both of them from Tippmann.

There are more upgrades that you can get. These are just themajor ones. There are a few aftermarket bolts available. There are also other grips out there. Thumb screw kits are available so you can feild strip it.

No matter what anyone says the Tippmann is still the most durable gun out there. Also it is one of the most customizable. You don't need to get everything on this list, get what you want to. Remember, this is your gun.
