My cousins tippy won't stay cocked!
My cousins tippy crapped out on him at the field the other day, so he takes it home replaces all the o-rings and the stupid thing still won't stay cocked. He'll shoot one...normal maybe? shot and then one really crappy one that goes like 3 feet and it uncockes. The o-rings are all the same size (i'm pretty such at least) and we don't know what to do. My cousin thinks it's the valve but he's not sure. He doesn't run his 02 siphoned though. This is a strange problem. What should we do? Its a model 98, not custom BTW.

I'm almost 100% sure the problem is the power tube. When you open the gun the CVX valve is encased in a plastic tube that's smaller at the front (the bolt slides over it) and hangs over the back of the valve. This part is integral to the firing cycle. When the rear bolt hits the CVX valve pin, it opens the valve, allowing the air to exit through the front, propelling the paintball. When the valve reaches the full open position it allows enough air out the back to recock the rear bolt, resetting the cycle:
So, if the shroud is cracked it allows air to escape before it can push the rear bolt back, typically resulting in a short auto burst where the rear bolt never quite catches the sear and eventually decocks (very similar to what happens when you run out of air.) If the shroud is severly damaged it would result in what you're saying happens. Its not much to worry about, however, as almost any proshop that sells Tippmann products is bound to have bags full of them, and if they charge you for them (which they probably won't since they're free from Tippmann) its only going to be a few dollars. If there's no proshop around you could call/write/email Tippmann and I'm sure they'd send you one free of charge.
Of course, its also possible that this isn't the problem. If the powertube is undamaged, the gun probably isn't getting enough pressure to operate...which could mean several things. His airline might be blocked by some debris, or worse, he could have debris in his valve. It doesn't take much...a bit of dirt, a small piece of teflon tape, etc. is enough to restrict airflow. His tank could also be defective, or his ASA might not push the pin valve open enough. Try using his tank on your gun, and use your tank on his gun. If it still does it, its probably a blockage of some kind.

It's still possible that the powertube is cracked...maybe to the point where part of it actually broke off. I'd suggest taking it to a proshop and having them look at it...when in doubt leave it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Why spend $30+S&H when you can get a new plastic one from Tippmann for free? The stock Tippmann bolt is as good as its going to get...the way its designed leaves no room for improvements. What's the difference if its made out of aluminum or plastic? It does the same thing...

You can test to see if your CVX valve is working properly:
1) Air up the marker with the bolt cocked.
2) Hold the bolt back with your hand and pull the trigger.
3) GENTLY let the bolt slide forward until it stops. At this point it should be resting on the valve. It should not leak any air.
4) Push the bolt GENTLY forward to see if you get a hissing sound.
5) Push it forward harder to see if the hiss becomes a louder roar. BE CAREFUL! The bolt will try to push your hand backward. Don't break your little fingers!
It should give you a solid push back and should not hiss with the bolt resting on the valve.
The other solution could be that the rear bolt has worn down were the sear catches or the sear could be worn. Also, your sear spring may be faulty. Open it up and check it out.
Like seal 1 said, you might also have some crap in your line or in the valve. You can dissassemble it all and blow it all out. If all else fails, don't pay for a valve! Get a free one from Tippmann.

I don't think I've ever heard of Tippmann just giving someone a free CVX when its the end user's fault its broken. I'll admit that the CVX is about as bulletproof as valves come in the paintball world, but there's only so far a company will go with warrranting their product.

ARE YOU SURE YOUR O-RINGS AND INTERNALS ARE OILED?
that will solve the re-cocking problem most of the time. oil your internals well and try shooting it, if that dont work then listen to the above. but try oiling before shelling out 30 or 40 bucks
