3/8 weaver?
I'm thinking of getting a 4x scope for my A-5
The scope says it requires a 3/8 weaver, actually many of the scopes and reflex sights need that.
I called up the guy who sells it, he said that it should just attach to the top of your gun if it is 3/8.
My question to you is, does the tippmann A-5 have a 3/8 weaver so that I could attach the scope to it?
Thanks in advance, and hello everyone, I'm new to this forum.

being that i'm a n00b still... dont take this advise to heart. BUT..... your PB gun isnt going to shoot far enough to need a scope that you can actually see through. use the stock sight.... or get a rear raised sight if you must actually sight someone in (because it might be difficult to use the stock sight with a mask on your raise the rear). mostly worry about the paint to barrel match... thats where your accuracy is going to come from. if you fire in short bursts you can manually adjust for where the balls are going. personally thats what i have observed with our woodsball crew to work the best.

please god do not get a scope, as pbricer has stated, there is no place for them on a paintball field.
it might make your gun look cooler to you, but its impractical on the field.

yes chorme couldnt have been so right scopes are not needed paintball is a fast paced game you dont have time to look in your scope and shoot ever time. If you dont have a response trigger on your a5 and that would increase your bps alot and you should have a nice mech a-5 but dont get a scope. And a flatline barrel it will probaly add like 100 ft extra to your shot.

Hey fallout, do what you want, its your gun and your game. If you go to wallmart, they have a set of raised rings, (the kink you would use to be able to use metal sights and a scope at the same time) mount the scope so that it will "lean" to the left of the marker. That way it will clear your hopper without needing any further mod. Keep in mind that you will need to remove the scope to break the gun apart so mark where the rings mount. Check out the A-5owners group for some more mounting ideas.
You can mount a rail to mount the scope on but that gets a little spendy.
I had a extra scope off of an old 22 lying around and went to a big woods game last weekend. I threw my scope on just for kicks. My initial thought was that I would use it for spotting mostly and the raised rings alowed me to snap shoot as normal. There were Two occasions that day that I was able to walk my shots in by using the scope.
the magnification helped me identify what was stump and what was player.
the flatline barrel and scope worked very well together. Without flatline it would just be a spotter.
I am not saying you will be a sniper, but a scope can be very handy to have.
Was it worth the weight of carrying it all day? probably not.
Will I keep in on my gun? also probably not. but I think I will keep it in the bag.

OMG you're saying that the scope won't fit my gun because the hopper would be in the way?? It's a 4x20 scope.
I bought it pretty much to make my gun pimped out, and sometimes you do really need a scope. It was only 15$

^^if it is a very small scope (short) it may fit. Most will not. You will have to melt your hopper and pop it in to get a sight path. Or you could get a lapco offset sight rail ($35). I suggested the raised rings beacause it is the most cost effective way. ($10 at wallyworld) Play around with it and keep us posted. You will find more scope mount info and pictures at the A5og. good luck.

the little tasco/daisy 4x20's that are like 14.95 at wally world will work w/o any hinderance . like was already mentinoed tho, those raised rings are a good idea if you want to do this to ure gun. take what jaggy said to heart, thats pretty much the usefullness of a scope on a pb gun. pb guns don't have the range or accuracy to make the use of a scope that viable of a sighting option. just for fun one time i tried putting my red dot sight on my tippy, i found it rather hard to get the mount to go into the dovetails on the tippy, it will go on w/o an aftermarket raised sight rail tho.

Something better than a scope is a red dot like mine. Comes in very handy with the flatline and when used with the 98 flatline it does not have to be removed when taking the gun apart, it will remain on the rear of the shroud and the entire shroud will come off. Mine is a 1x 42mm. Therefore it has no zoom and you keep both eyes open. Its basicly just like using the stock sights but eliminates the time it takes to line up the front and rear sights makeing target aquisition actually faster than the stock sights. It will not break when shot with a paintball and it looks pretty cool and scares the hell out of the nOObs. Lastly if you goto my rate my gun link in my sig, you can see a pic that I took using the camera to sight with so its a basically a view if you were to be aiming my gun. One thing the pic doesnt show is the opticall illusion that you would experience of the hopper becoming "see thru". Tuff to explain so Im not even gonna try but anyway, maybe this thread will help you some.

back to the original question....
I know for 100% that the A5 has a 5/8 Weaver/picatinny rail but i cant remember if tippmann also has the 3/8 dovetail on also incorporated into the A5 rail or not.
The 98C has both the 3/8 dovetail and the weaver/picatinny rail.
www.bp-usa.com has conversion rails from 3/8 to picatinny and vice versa.
