try turning your velocity down some and that should go away.

last weakend my buddy just put on his flatline and he had draxxus and he couldn't shoot more then five balls and a ball would break, i was using the same paint and i didn't break one out of 1000 balls so i think that draxxus and flatlines don't mix very well

flat line views......

my brother and i have been playing down here in georgia latelywith a very tough and aggressive group of woodsballers ,about 15 players in all. several of them have flatlines on both 98's and A-5's,and they all rave about them.regardless of their "opinions",we quickly learned to fear these above all other barrels.not only have we been at the recieving end of these, but we've shot them numerous times ourselves, comparing them with our smart parts progressive and J&J ceramic barrels.over all,we've been pretty happy with these barrels, especiallly when compared to the miserable stock barrel, but anyone that claims these two barrels are remotely as accurate or far-shooting as the flatline is either lying or stupid.my brother has one being delivered this week, and assuming it holds up to closer examination,i'll probably be ordering one very soon.

I am thinking of getting a Tippmann A-5 with an e-grip and a flatline barrel. How much should I pay for it?

I just got my flatline for my Tippman 98C in the mail yesterday. But the funny thing is I didn't think it would be here for another week and the day before I got it I ran out of CO2. So I havn't had a chance to shoot it yet but I cant wait to!

Thats because you either
a) didnt have the barrel properly aligned
b) most likely had the velocity too high.

you can get a retail price quote at xpaintball.com and then see what kind of deal you can find on ebay or the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here or the nation.

My thoughts... Book coming out soon ;)

After consorting Smitty for advice on purchasing a new Flatline System for my 98custom, I took the jump and got a dainty buy. I had many doubts of purchasing this system for my gun because of the large amount of horrible down play from people that have used this barrel system before. That was all crushed after my own use of this fine barrel system.

From my experience of uber newbs installing this barrel system on their guns, I could see where people have had bad experiences with it. Sadly in my days of paintball I have seen the shroud not bolted on but completely ducted taped on from end to end including the barrel. Barrels jammed into receivers sideways and then adjusted to a straight on angle by “eye-balling it” *bad idea with a 98c style*. No more please!!!

I just can’t stress how much you need to read the instructions, there is a reason why they pay a nerd in a factory somewhere to write them up. It’s because it will work if you follow them. PARTICULARLY WHEN THE DARK BOLD BOX SAYS: ADJUSTING BALL FLIGHT. If the adjustment of your barrel doesn’t stop the curvature of ball flight, adjust your velocity, and from experience you are probably running hot for the Flatline System. I have never had to turn the velocity up -Rarely if I have, and probably not anything more then a quarter of a turn- in my career on a Flatline to correct ball flight patterns. The Flatline is a very picky barrel when it comes to the velocity your gun is set at. Before a game gets underway, I usually do some test shots to see the flight path and do adjustments; I strongly recommend doing some test shots if it is possible.

The quality of paint does affect the ability of the Flatline to fully perform its duties. Though nothing drastic will happen I have notice that lower quality paint doesn’t sustain flight as well as higher quality. Though in my area of play this isn’t a huge factor nor do I notice it that much. But if you are a hardcore player I suggest better quality paint will enhance the greatness of the Flatline System. In essence paint size to the Flatline bore will increase accuracy, like any normal barrel though because of its shape you may have to experiment.

I have more then enough faith in the Flatline System and it does work if installed and maintained properly.

*I am exposed to mostly 98c style Flatline Systems, but I have some experience with the A-5 type also.*

Well there is no PERFECT paint for the flatline because any decent paint will work fine. Barrel alignment is covered in this stickey somewhere but one more time turn your velocity all the way down and leve the barrel adaptor bolt loose. Eyeball the barrel straight and fire a few times and twist-adjust the barrel until the balls have no side to side curvature. Then tighten the adaptor bolt. Then turn up your velocity until your shots begin to fly erratically. Then back off the velocity until the erraticness goes away and this should have you set up about 285 fps and give you a nice tight grouping. Finally make sure the barrel is nice and clean when you align it. Its completely impossible to align the barrel if its not clean.

flatline opinion ....................

after playing for the first time with borrowed guns from our brother and his sons, my (other) brother and i ,having been seriously been bitten by the bug, decided to buy our own guns. after polling our experienced freinds, and researching all the websites i could find,we quickly decided that 98's were the way to go (for woodsball).we imediately upgraded to to smart parts progressives, then to J&J ceramics, then to response triggers and expansion chambers.then we played with a large group of seasoned locals that are VERY good, and we experienced the flatline barrel on both 98's and A-5's. i had heard and read that they were'nt worth the money, and believed it,but we quickly learned to fear these acurrate, long range barrles above all others, and now we both have them on our A-5's,and have been dispensing pain and humility on a regular basis !!!!!!!
p.s. GO LANCE.......VIVA ESTADOS UNIDOS !!!!!!!!

use medium quality paint.
cheep paint aint round enough and will get thrown everywhere. high quality paint is to thin shelled so it will be shredded. medium is just right.

The only problem I have with Tippmann Flatline Barrels is the fact that the barrel itself and the top rail that mounts it to the gun are both plastic. I don't know about anyone else, but that is scarey to me, sometimes I run and drop to the ground quick, with a platic barrel I'd be affraid of breaking it.

Flatline barrels are not plastic only the shroud is. See the trick here is to be informative by posting things you are sure about and I guarantee you that you arent sure the flatline is made of plastic because its just not true.

^^^This would have sufficed, the other 2 lines of sarcasm were unnecessary. I looked at a flatline barrel for a 98c in the store about a month ago, when I went to purchase my BT-16. I did know the barrel was metal, and the shroud was plastic, I just forgot, I made a mistake, I'm human, I can admit it and live with it.

^^^This crap was totally uncalled for, If this is how all moderators on this forum respond to people that make mistakes, instead of replying to my post, I'd rather you just delete 'em from now on. I don't take kindly to someone younger than me talking down to me in a condescending manor. I don't appreciate it at all.
