My 15yo son has fallen in LOVE with the Pro-Lite, and won't quit bugging me til he's got one. He's got a JT Outkast (which really isn't all THAT bad) and I offered to get him a Model 98 or a 98C (like me), nur he's got his heart set on a Pro-Lite. I may be able to talk him into a Pro Carbine, because it's a LITTLE newer, and it's supposed to have an improved valve system over the Pro-Lite. I think he wants the feel of a larger gun, more like a rifle than a submachine gun. At least he appreciates the classics and doesn't want to get all the latest technology that will be outdated in a year!

HUGE necropost, but since I never posted in this thread, I'll post my opinion of the Carbine. IMO Carbines were the last of the great Tippmanns...because after the Carbine, they went to the craptastic clamshell design.

Carbines rock socks and they can use A5 barrels.

Actually, I like to tell people that "A5s use Pro/Lite or Pro-Carbine threads". After all, which came 1st, the A5 or the Pro-Am-Lite-Carbine?

True enough but if you walk into a store and ask for a barrel in Pro Carbine threads the 15 year old behind the counter wont be able to help you.

Aaahhh, but MY 15 year old knows more about the pro-lite than he does the A5. He still has to look twice to tell an A5 from a 98C. (He should get better at that soon enough... I got him a 98C for Christmas.)

I think I've talked my son into a Pro/Carbine (Instead of the Pro-Lite) some time in the future. The Pro/Carbine has an improved valve design, is newer, and parts should be easier to find. He was considering making a single shot Pro-Lite or Pro/Carbine "sniper", hand loading the Tiberius First Strike rounds. (GREAT idea if you have a "backup piece" and/or "spotter" to support you if and when the enemy finds you and closes in on you...)
