sand all to paint?

ok i have decided i want to paint my gun. i think i will do a 2-tone. I want to keep the middle of the gun(the part that pops up) black and the outside blue. My question is if i would have to sand the black down and re-spray it for it to look good. Would it look good if it was half powderd and half sprayed? Should i paint my gun like this? my dad thinks that the blue paint will seep under the painters tape and i will have blue where i want black
thanks!

dont listen to him. i dont know much about painting but i do know you do have to do a light sanding on it and sand blast it before you do anything. as for the tape, you dont want tape if your doing a fade, or are you not doing a fade? ask smitty, hes done really nice painting jobs.

no i am not doing a fade. I have heard repeatedly that u need to sand down. should i sand all the way down or just sand a little? if sanding all the way down will make it look better/last longer i will do that(i dont mind the work)

that is what i want to do. i have never seen it done-is there a reason for that?

A complete opinion, but what is the coolest looking color, LEAST commonly used on a tippmann? Blue and Red are both really common.

bro, u don't need to sand it, 1 the tippmann logo will now be black, and if u aren't painting over then don't do it. Also if u take the powder off the say grip and don't paint it then it might rust, powder is almost rust free, just on the part u are painting take liek 200 grit and then just do a lil sanding, don't have to, but ti will make it last a lil, put tape all over the part you don't want painting, blue tape, then sand a lil and paint, and clear coat, or u'll be sorry.

I dont sand mine when I paint them becuse there is no problem with flaking. Paint IS gonna end up scratched though and thats a fact. I used regular old masking tape and it worked well, the paint did not seep under the tape. Best advise thoug, when you strip the hardware off the reciever halves give them a thourough detergent bath and let it dry completely and wash and dry your hands to make sure there is no oil on your hands to get on the project because that will hurt your paintjob.

it all depends on what colors. If u want it to look as sick as possible w/ a light blue u will want to prime, lite sand, only to ruff up the prime, then reprime lite sand. By lite sand i mean 250-300 grit and liek 1 or 2 passes, not much. It allows the next coat to go on flatter and smoother. For light blue, i woudl say 2-4 coats, when it looks the way u liek it let it dry for a day, then use clear coat. I would use maybe 2-3 layers of that.

But u can do 1-2 coats of paint, and 1 coat of clear, it is all about how much time and effort u are willing to put into it, and how well u want it to look.

Just remember tho, if u put a nice new blue layer, the black might look funny, and out of place. U might want to go ahead and repaint it, just do ahead and do leik 1-2 coats balck, no priming, then cover and do blue. Make sure u use all one kind of paint, gloss etc. It will look funny w/ gloss and flat together.

I will go ahead and paint mine, including the barrel? Wish me luck on the barrel........wish i coudl get liek stickies for the a5............mine custom it........so i dont paint the grip.......
I will do like a red to black.......flame.........might like get a hella nice sticky of something and put under clear, wonder if it will work?
