Question Reg vs X-chamber

Maybe a dumb question, but i was looking through the tippmann pics thread at all of the different markers, and noticed that a number of the markers had x-chambers but were running HPA. I was under the impression that the x-chamber was beneficial only for C02. Is this the case, and if not, what is the advantage of using the x-chamber with HPA over a secondary reg??

Expansions wouldn't effect HPA.

My guess is that they're leftovers from when they were running CO2, and they kept them around as a sort of gas-through grip.
