Lock Please
Hey guys, my team, Team Guthix ( www.TeamGuthix.com) is a rookie team. However, next tournament, we're going to probably go novice. We are in Connecticut. I have been trying to get sponsorships from stores, fields, every company (evil-empire-redz-pmi-viewloader-dye-proto-everything...), i've read every word on tips to get a sponsorship, and I havea team resume. My Team has won 2nd and 3rd place in various local tournament. We haven't eventered BIG tournaments yet (like PSP,NPPL,ect...) But that dosen't mean were not a decent team. We have 3 players but soon a few more( like atleast 3). I really have no idea on what I should do. Any help? Thanks!
PS- For the EVIL Sponsorship- Do you just hand in the pdf you print out from tehre site to a local store?
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND ANYMORE- THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPINIONS

if you all are kids, it will be hard to get people to get any sponcership.
your best bet is going to the biggest local bussiness' in your area. for example i live in vegas. we have the strip. there is a team that is sponcerd by the palm's rum jungle.

Just a tip, I wouldn't be bumping up to novice with a 3man team whos going to just pick up a few more. 5 and 7 man formats are a whole new game compared to 3man. And about the sponsorships, just keep playing and moving up.

Well, my team has played 5 man with this team near us (we're friends and all). (Team N.O.G)... We got 3rd place... So its not that bad. 1 Field was so rigged tho. Every game we played there we won 100 to 0 (besdies one- it was 100 to 5). The rigged field... We played on it 3 times. With This Exception... 1 Normal game was on the rigged field... we lost 0 to 100. The other 2 games(finals) we lost both. It was gay. But Whatever. We woulda got first.

for local tournies i wouldnt go and try to get sponsorship from big companies. Try smaller like paintball stores, fields, and even paintball unrelated businesses. Its hard enough to get sponsored by big companies in div3, and allmost impossible in local/regional tournaments(unless you have connections).

2nd- I do have a more than decent team for my division (so were moving up now), we practice regularly, AND we have played in a 5 man turny before...

you keep saying A 5man tourney....if your moving up 5 or 7man and bumping up a divison both at once, your gonna be in for a rude awakening once you meet some real nov 5 and 7 man teams. The competition level between a local 3man rookie and a big 7man rookie is amazing, you need to stay in your division, step up the format you play, and move up to bigger tournies.

Basically, our plans are to play another 3 man rookie. Maybe even another 5 man rookie. After one or both of those, were going to go novice 3 man. If we do good in Novice, we might go to 5 man. We're not gunna hit any 7 mans though...

wow, you have a novie 3man div around you? And im reccomending this because most places, once you go nov, you cant go back. So if you go nov 3man and then try bump it up, your not gonna be happy when you find out its tough luck when you want to play 5man rookie

Yea... Places around us dont keep track tho... We would just have to practice more at novice level then. Yea, we do have novice 3/5 man tournaments around here...

Play for a year and win some nice little 1st place finishes on your resume, that always helps.
You can get sponsored by a local feild or shop fairly easy. Just roll in their tournies then talk to a local shop and you'll get hooked up.

yea, I'd play rookie for a while. My team played in about 4 rookie tournaments, we did pretty good. then we got sponsered by a field, moved up to novice and got our a$$es handed to us. We should have stayed in rookie for a little longer before moving up.

Bingo, you should move up in tourney size instead of divison.

Our team (Darkside) plays the CFOA in the rookie division. Come and try the rookie div out & I know it will open your eyes to the level of competition you will be facing! Don't be fooled into thinking "oh just rookies" because there are some serious ballers in that division. there is usually 60-70 rookie teams @ each event & approx 90 % of them are not to be under estimated by no means. So before you think about going novice, I suggest you try competing against some "real rookie teams" first! Get away from the local tourney scene & try some of the larger regional series like the CFOA (largest 5 man series in the world). I have heard so many times, teams saying "we didn't know what we got ourselves into & didn't realize the level of competition we were facing..Guess we got some work to do because we got our @#%$ handed to us! So anyway, good luck with your team.
Mike
