Field Walking Tips
For any of you that are interested here are some field walking tips that I threw together, let me know what you guys think and if this was of any help.
Field Walking
First Off
-Start in the middle of the field, not in the breakout.
-Look for their breakout, their running lanes, and their possible bunkers.
-Now that you have their breakout, find your strongest ones where you have all the angles.
-Can you reach your spots off the break or will it take two moves, if it takes two work out your move to the second.
Strong Points
-Identify your strong point on the field and cover this position with support players.
-Your second strong point should be found further back; this should be your side’s best spot to scan the field. This spot should be able to relay what he sees and cover the whole field. The further back he is the better he’ll do his job.
-Your other players should plan around these two guys.
The Break
-Think of what bunkers you will take off the break.
-What we want to shoot at off the break.
-How many shooters.
-How many runners.
-What side will be the push side.
Think
-Have you left a gap?
-Are your players in good cover?
-Is your lineup balanced?
Other Players
-They need to support your front player.
-They need to be able to gain ground.
-They need to be in a position to push.
-They have to be able to cover the field.
-Do the support players have a tricky run?
Front Man
-If he needs to make a move where do players need to be and who needs to provide cover.
-Where will the paint be coming from when he makes his run?
-Find the opposing positions that can fire on your guy.
Your Bunkers
-Know your bunker.
-Look at all possible angles; sit behind it, stand back a bit, look left-right, lie down, etc.
-The more experience you gain the more set moves you’ll be able to work out.
Overview
-Know your primary and secondary moves.
-Place each player in a position to use their skills.
-Be realistic but also daring.
-No one should play a spot they don’t want to or don’t feel comfortable in.
-Look at all the bunkers, not just the ones that will be played.
-Look for blind spots, key lanes, and who needs to look over who.
-Look at who can shoot you and who you can shoot.
