that's not technically true matrix.. there is a guy that in one month he gathered a team, got sponsers(by asking THEM), got a coach, and entered in a tourney and actually did ok. he recorded everything and put in up onto youtube can't find it anymore but it was pretty good..
The best sponsor for paintball is yourself because nobody gives a crap about paintball but people that play paintball. That website linked above has only EIGHT sponsors listed on it and all were added in '06 and nearly three thousand teams are listed looking for handouts.
honestly it's not hard though just walk up to your local pro shop and ask to talk to the person in charge then ask whether they would be wiling to sponsor your team.. now the more you have to offer and that you have planned out the better chances you have.. like if you went in with a time line of upcoming tourneys you wish to go to and roster.. i'm sure that if they haven't already sponsored too many other teams they will consider yours.. and then while your out actually at the tourneys you should take a walk around with a few copies of your roster and timeline and talk to a few companies that are set up there.

"Hi my friends and I have a rec paintball team but we are going to be going to a few events this year would your company like to give us some money or free stuff?"
Not likely. Fund yourselves and then when you have a track record worth backing you might be able to get some sponsors to get behind you. Sponsorship isn't easy to get you might be able to get some small discounts at your local proshop but the big sponsorships worth bragging about are few and far between
when we were looking for sponsors for a demo car we went to about 30 places asking for anything we might be able to use.
the junkyard sponsored us with a car and any parts we needed
the local napa sponsored 2 cans of orange paint that had been on there shelf for several years (this was nice cause i got some practice in with a hvlp spray gun) and a manual choke
the local tire shop gave us 3 sets of almost bald winter tires and rims
my uncles company sponsored us with a welding truck/winch and any necessery tools we might have needed
one company even supplied us with uniforms with all the sponsors stitched on (as this was a company that had just opened and were looking to get there name out)
they also cut us vinyl stickers for the car @ the price of the vinyl stickers
several companies sponsered us with a little cash and other things
when all was said and done we spent like $30 on the derby/with entry fee
just because a company doesn't seem like they would have anything to offer CASH is always +++
Paintball costs big dollars every event and offers little exposure for advertising until you start climbing your way up the ladder that's why I say to wait until you have a proven record. It never hurts to ask around I sponsor lots of local rec league sports teams and if a kids paintball team stopped in I'd probably shoot a couple of dollars their way but if they don't have a portfolio and can't promise me some decent exposure for my company's money they won't get much.
Look at it this way for about $2000 I can send out 24,000 flyers and out of those I'm guaranteed at least a few dozen new customers that will spend that amount and more over the course of the business relationship. Even if the people that get the flyers don't buy anything right away they are at least aware my business is here. How many people are at your speedball tourney and how do I know they will even see my logo or company name? Your team gets something but what can I count on getting?

Getting sponsors for a demo derby car and getting sponsors for your paintball team are 2 totally different things. I have experience with both.
When me and some of my friends decided that we wanted to make a demo car this year it was really easy to get sponsors...before we even had a car! You wouldn't be able to get a paintball sponsorship before you even have a gun would you? nope. Lots of people go to the demos at the county fairs and everything...so the more cars have the companies name on them the more advertisement it is...win or loose, lots of people will see their name on the cars. Last year there was a farm that put an add in the paper LOOKING for demo cars to sponsor. At my county fair he had his name on 15 cars in the various classes. What companies in paintball are that desperate to offer sponsorship to anybody and everybody?
The better your team is the better the sponsors will be. A ****ty team isn't going to get a really nice sponsorship from a team like Dye or Planet Eclipse will they? not a chance. Around here I have noticed that the best sponsors for the new teams starting up are mommy and daddy of the kids on the teams...pretty rediculous really. The last tourny I went to had a team in the rookie division and they all had matching gear, guns (Pm7s) and it was their first tournament...and they got spanked by a team with a couple kids wearing jeans and had random spyders and a couple ions. Moral of the story........get good to get good sponsors, or have your mommy and daddy buy you everything
I am not saying the sponsorship is going to be the same and i am shure your not going to have all your supplies fronted as we did for your car by no means but tools, cash, your first time out your not going to get sponsor like agd (which if you had a mag team they probably would), proto, dye, and so forth but you put in the effort and some company might sponsor you with better (i am not really looking for any sponsor right now)
technically i have 2 sponsors hicks hardware and ~walmart~ my wife works there so i get like 10% off my paint and what ever else i buy
old man hicks has taught me a lot about plumbing electrical, gardening so he always get's free advertisement.
if i need anything for my gun ie allen wrenches, sockets, screw drivers he always has them in stock
if i am looking for any thing specific i can't find else where he has about 20 different suppliers with cataloges i can search through for what i need
Q Will Airgun Designs sponsor my Team?
A Probably not. We currently have as many sponsored teams as we are willing to support.
If all the players on your team use Mags, we suggest you keep a careful record of your wins and participate in the Automags Online forums frequently. Tom Kaye hand-picks all sponsored teams, and a winning team of Mag users that is active on AO has a better chance of being noticed.
The good sponsors come to you if you have something to offer.
I would say that Redz is a good sponsor, because they will consider anybody for a sponsorship. I would'nt be expecting any free stuff from them though, unless your team wins some tournaments.
redz sponsorship is you buying there stuff for cheaper than store price. its pretty much free promotion for them if you don't have gear. Go to your parents or friends parents if they own a business and say "we will put your logo on your team shirt/jersey if you help pay for entry fee"
those are the kind of "sponsors" you should be looking for at this point
