from wat i read from numerous "how to get sponsored" articles. never send an email asking for a sponsor. or at least u shud avoid it. send a resume thru the mail. also make a portfolio with info on ur team and pics. if u have a website tell them about it. also if u have videos show em. in addition tell them wat they get out of sponosring u which is mostly advertising. also try to wear their gear in ur team pics. like if u want sp to sponsor u avoid wearing like WDP stuff =] u dont have to own their gear to ask but sorta like a bonus.
summary:
Send portfolio through regular mail
tell them wat they get out of it
expect no's
give them all possible thinkable info about ur team
be professional and as mature as possible.
websites and videos and pictures are recommended.
if at first u dont suceed build a better record and try again.
a smart parts sponsership can get you anything from a discount on Jerseyies tank covers and the like all the way up to free gear. and it is probzbly better to start off with local companies like your field or the Car dealership down the road or somthing like that. Companies like Smartparts don't just give out sponserships
Best thing you can do to get sponsered is get out there and play at your local fields and show people what you got. If you are good, people will notice you and possibly offer you a spot on a team to help them out. If you suck, you're out of luck! Just play hard ball, like their is no tomorrow. That's the best way to start going about it. You can't just expect to get on a team just because you really want to. Prove you belong!
you need to win.........1 BILLION TOURNAMENTS MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Nah u juss gotta be organized, dedicated and respect ur "future" sponsors and hang out wit ur wang out while ur ballin' peoples faces off.

I'm a baker baby, I'm making mad dough. Oh snap...
What about the kids that ball at local places in the middle of now where. You guys seem to be talking about fields that are big and known, not small tournaments your local field plays. I think it would be cool to be sponsered one day but im in no rush.
