Dear Paintball Community
Dear Paintball Community:
I am a young paintballer with a lot to learn about the sport. I’ve loved it since last year and just this week, I saw a paintball tournament from back in 1995 on my computer. It was the Ironmen against the Totally Americans. When I watched that I was totally absorbed by it, I couldn’t believe what I was actually seeing! A real paintball tourney that they used to have! Not a speedball tourney for the world championship, but a woodsball game for the world championship! I almost thought it was untrue, how could it bee like that? All we know today is that woodsball is just something that recreational ballers play. Not what the pro’s play on.
I have realized that we in the paintball world have no clue (Apart from the old school paintballers) what the real strategic way to play paintball is. I mean, no offense to speedball but all it mostly has in it is two teams with high-powered markers shooting at each other with no strategy at all. It’s a game of: Whoever has the best marker and fastest marker wins.
Why do you think we have electrical hoppers now and double finger triggers? Because it’s for speedball, not for woodsball, before woodsball used to be the main event to play in. But now as we progress into the later years we have begun to forget what our roots are. I may have not known paintball for long as others but I for one believe that the strategy of tourney’s in the woods is much more fulfilling than playing a tourney in an open, air bunker area.
You all are probably getting tired of reading my entire letter about how paintball should be turned back to normal and such. So I’ll close this up fast, but before I do I want you all to know something that I hope will stay with you. Please try to keep the woodsball tourney’s alive, that’s where paintball came from, I think that’s where we should go back to. We’ve become engulfed in speedball and fast games when the fun games are the long ones. The ones that take up time but have more umph into them are the ones you remember. But that’s just my opinion and about 30 paintballers I have talked to about it.
Your Friend,
Fastecho419
P.S. Think about it.

Yes, strategy and longer games. Those are what makes more people to come to it. Speedball is like eating candy. You want more, but you can't cuz' the game is over. Woodsball tourney's are like a meal that fills you up. Not the point where you don't want no more, but you want to get into it. You want it some more later. Ya know?

If you want strategy go play in the woods. The majority of tournament paintball is in speedball today because paint companies make loads more money there than in the woods. And speedball is how lots of people like to play now. Its fast paced, adrenaline pumping, and exciting. To some people woodsball is exciting because there is strategy and the games are long, but to many that is boring and they want excitement.

No offense, but have you ever shot faster than 14 bps?
You probably have never felt the rush of shooting $5.00 a second off the break.
And no offense, but people with spyders tend to like the woods more anyways.

^^agreed, and umm...why the heck would pros spend hours walking a field before a game to strategize, your article is wrong, other than our roots, and there are still some hardcore woodsballers, but most have realized the love the ruch of speedball

I used to think the same way but I just got into speedball and like it a ton more, i still play woods but i prefer the fast action over the waiting 2 hours and maybe getting lucky and getting in a fight.

waiting 2 hours? you should try playing on a half acre- 1 acre woodsball field, you don't waste a minute in that game, it's like speedsball in the woods...

That stuff is great. And it's not two hours. Maybe it's because there are just some people who can't understand what I speak of. But those who understand know the true meaning of it. Recball used to be tourney's and stuff. But now it's been reduced to something that we just do on 'occasion'. We still have hardcore woodsballers yes, but I mean, those who enjoy speedball shouldn't hate them. They should understand them. But yet they don't...

It is called growth of a sport. There are 2 types of paintball: rec(woods) and tourney. Rec is a hobby and not mainstream. Tourney is a sport and the mainstream part of paintball. There are no tourney players that want to play in the woods, it would be a step in the wrong direction. sorry

I started playing paintball in the woods, and i loved and i bought my first gun.
The first tyme i used that gun i played on a hyperball field for the first time. It was WAY more fun than playing in the woods. The woods is still fun, but after playing speedball it might seem kinda boring...

speedball players dont hate on rec players, its usually the other way around, and as stupid as it sounds, 90% of the time rec players are complaining about the way paintball is layed now are noobs that shoot spyders and cant afford anything better.
speedball is here to stay and camo wearing rec players need to understand that and stop hating on "jersey wearing kewl doods"
