Looking for a good Barrel for my Spyder Compact

Hi folks, new here and to the world of Paintball.

Some friends of mine have been into paintball for quite sometime and I wanted to get into it, but wanted to do so cheap just to get a feel for it.

I love it, we play woods ball. Anyhow, I was looking for deals since I wanted to get into it cheap to see if I liked it. So I found a 2000 Spyder Compact that came with 2 masks, pods, etc for 50 bucks and went ahead and got it.

The gun came with the stock barrel as well as an aftermarket barrel. They suck. The accuracy sucks. Today a friend let me try his Evil barrel and holy smokes, huge difference.

He says you can't buy Evil barrels anymore so what would be a great barrel for accuracy for woods ball? Seems like most people are saying J&J or CP but a little more info on a specific barrel and length would be great. I love this sport but want to play a little more with this gun before upgrading to something better.

Thanks for any insight.

Matt.

Length doesn't really matter much beyond 12" All you're doing at those lengths is getting a bit more length to push bunkers if you play airball, push through brush if you play woodball, and losing efficiency.

And yes, J&J 1 piece or CP 1 piece is going to be the best recommendation. Cheap, effective, high quality.

Hey man, thanks for the quick and helpful response.

I was just looking at CP barrels on a site. After what you said i'll probably just grab a 12".

It has 3 different listings for the Spyder. Which would be best? It has the following listed.

-Spyder .685
-Spyder .689
-Spyder .693

Price is right to at 30 bucks. Here's a link just in case.

Custom Products 1 Piece Barrel - 12 Inch Black Polished

Once I would have said go with the .693, but with paint shrinking .689 is probably safest. If you're a believer in underboring (I am) get the .685. Still going to be bigger than some paint, and will be a mild underbore on some. But some people don't believe in underboring and overboring is always safe. .693 would be overkill now.

I am going to go with your expertise on what you tell me to get. Seems to me the tightest fit possible without the ball getting stuck is best. So your saying that potentially by going with the .685 some balls could get stuck in the barrel perhaps?

So the decision is between the .685 and .689. I guess I have some research to do on the overboring, underboring thing.

Well, nothing is going to get stuck. But some paint will be larger than .685. Some people (myself included) thinks this is a good thing, as it'll seal good and offer good efficiency because you're not getting air going around the ball. Others thinks it increases the chances of getting barrel breaks.

Yeah that makes sense, I was just reading an article on Underboring Vs Overboring and that helped expain alot to. So as you said it looks like the .689 will be the "safest". I guess I will go with that one and hope i'm not dissapointed.

id go with a 689, better to have a little too much room than not enough

im a fan of the J&J barrels over the CPs, i love the ceramic with Teflon, shoots out breaks very well

Trbo's right.
lulz

While both are quality barrels, I prefer my J&J 1 piece the CP 1 piece, and sold my full CP Barrel Kit for a J&J Edge Elite Barrel Kit

Not AZN level price, there's not too many electro markers priced at the same level as the Talon.

In for an update. I ordered the CP Polished Black 14" .685. It came yesterday evening but it was do dark out by the time I got it to do anything. Today after work I went over to a buddies house and we did a little Target shooting. So far after today I love this barrel. It is very accurate and consistent. We got a pretty good group of us getting together Saturday to play some woods ball. I can't wait to try this thing out.

I'll update again after Saturday's Mayhem.
