why? etek is every bit as much of a EP poppet as the ego line is and has a noid that is built to take more punishment, most of the parts are even interchangeable between the two. if you like the colors id still get a etek and have it annoed, for the money you save you could have a pretty sick custom anno
Whichever one you don't mistreat. Neither is inherently a more reliable design. They're both stacked poppets designed for durability. But second or third or whatever the Etek.
lol Trbo323 . I was wondering the same thing as well. Trbo323 knows his stuff and i have a feeling owns his own etek 3 . I watch pretty much all of mike from techpb's reviews on youtube and i was very surprised to see how impressed he was with the fusion fx. In the review he said its closest competition is the etek 3. He doesn't say which he would prefer, BUT, said the FX is more quiet, has better air efficiency, has the oled board which is 150 dollars on its own. Plus the 16" 2 peice barrel which i thought was odd.
My buddy has an FX and i had a G4 at the time, one game we traded guns and his FX was real nice but i wasnt a big fan of the trigger compared to my G4.
Etek3 is a superior design to the FX. Properly tuned, stock vs. stock, the Etek will be smoother, and personally has a superior trigger. The reason that it will be smoother is because it runs at much lower pressures. The FX must not only propel the ram forward, it must also overcome the resistance of the spring. So it REQUIRES higher pressure to cycle than the Etek, which only has to move the ram. While the FASOR (forward air, spring operated return) design is VERY nice, and in fact DP has perhaps the best FASOR ever made in the FX, it's simply out of it's league when compared to the Etek3.
I would honestly have to agree with everyone here on the Etek being the superior marker platform
While there is nothing inherently wrong with the FASOR design (and I personally like it quite a bit), the fact that, if properly tuned, will almost always cycle on a higher pressure than a properly tuned fully electropneumatic poppet is its downfall.
The one thing that it has going for it though is simplicity. Very straightforward design and operation, and DP has some of the most robust and user friendly solenoid designs out there as far as I know.
With all of that said, I would get the Etek3 UNLESS you can find a used FX for about $300 at the very most. I'd honestly try and shoot for $275 or less.
That is what I think a fair value for the FX would be in terms of its performance value

iv always wondered why has nobody produced a budget priced FASOR? seems like it should be competing with the budget priced unbalanced spools not the EP poppets...
Wrath and the various other Dragun-based FASORS (Odyssey o2, o3, o3x, Rex Type-R, RX, R3, etc), DP F7, F8. There were others. But with Infinity releasing they're madly overpriced Legend at $700, everyone still making a FASOR suddenly decided they could sell theirs for too much too.
We were talking about competition for the less inexpensive unbalanced spools, so I was saying around $300 MSRP when released. Not AZN level price, there's not too many electro markers priced at the same level as the Talon.
If you ever want to find a used one, look for the Odyssey o2/Rex Type-R (same marker). FANTASTIC little FASORS, can be had for your kind of budget, uses lots of plentiful parts, nice triggers. Was my favorite FASOR, I wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of it.
yes, liked it better than the Fusion. Fusions were made with better quality, but the o2 was cheaper, easier to work on (it's a metric Spyder body), and maybe just me, but I thought they were AWESOME looking.
But all these low end FASORS were based on ZIP-kitted spyders.
azn, i just thought of a possible project for you since you already turned a g1 into a mechanical, what do you think the odds of turning a spyder into a Fasor are?
if you could find a complete ram assembly like a cocker ram, place it behind the hammer and the spring in front, take a poppet valve that does not have the cut to allow air to pass by to the hammer and work your magic on the trigger assembly to pull a valve instead of the sear it could work.
you could even try to fit a ion board in there since the pneumatics will work perfectly for the situation...
A mechanical FASOR?
I did buy a whole assload of spyder parts from Martix recently...
I think I you may have something going...
Just thought of a problem with a mechanical FASOR
Dwell would be controlled by how long you hold the trigger down, no bueno.
An electronic would be fine though
And it has the double oring on the bolt tail to seal off the chamber mechanically
Dumps all of the air in the chamber, and nothing more
Not sure how I could do something like that with a poppet though, spools are more suited for that kinda stuff because the bolt is the valve in most cases
