2011 Proto Rial question?

Hey was using my rail today when I noticed air coming out of the barrel, kind of a slow leak. I think it needed lube and have done so but have not aired it up. Rail is pretty much new, put maybe 2000 balls through it. Does anyone else think it needed lube?

One of the orings could be ripped/broken. Check each of them, strip all the lube off and reapply correctly.

word, one of the red oring looked kimd of funky, think I will fill et my tank filled and see what happens.

Just replace it if you have an extra. If you don't and it still doesn't work, you know what the problem is.

Been a week but I finally had time to fill up my air tank and.......... looks like it just needed lube. I need to remember to lube before and after eery outing. I should have known this but I'm still a noob when I comes to marker ownership. I'm not scared to work on the gun though, If I can fix furnaces and Air conditioners I think I can learn to work on a paintball gun, especially with all the resources of the internet. One quick question, do you really need to strip off all the lube every time you lube it and why?

because it's a DYE marker. The lubrication on them is annoying and frustrating. It's always been that way

you dont need to strip off lube unless its dirty or something else is wrong with it, unbalanced spools like the rail have always gone through lube like crazy

your leak most likely is an o-ring going bad and the lube is just a temporary fix, always carry extra o-rings

Yes.

It shouldn't need THAT much lube. I would only relube every 2-4 cases you put through it, or if the lube is dirty, or if the marker isn't working correctly. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, you'll end up causing more problems than you're fixing.

I'v got the extra orings that came with the marker. I'll make sure I take them with me when I go on an outing. Like I said one o-ring was kind of funky when I first checked it out but really didn't look so bad the second time I inspected it. How often on average do O-rings go bad.

Depends on the marker, how you care for it, and bunch of other factors, sometimes they last days and sometimes years.

Maintenance on teh PRR'12 takes me about 10ish minutes after play.

After taking off your barrel and your air tank:

1) make sure your marker is de-gassed (Dry fire into a rag after checking breech for paint).
2) using an allen key- remove the back cap and bolt assembly.
2b) If the assembly doesn't come out in 1 piece, use a fuzzy stick down the barrel end to gently push it until you can grab it in the back of the marker.
3) with a towel in hand - squeeze the blue bolt tip o-ring and remove it, setting aside for cleaning.
4) remove bolt from can
5) wipe down all parts and o-rings to remove dirt.
5b) check tophat (red) o-ring for wear
6) apply Dow33 or dye lube to all o-rings, including those inside the can and the ones attached to the back cap
7) reassemble
8) clean, lube, and put the blue o-ring back on bolt assembly.
9) remove and clean eye-pipe.
10) screw parts back together

I started to notice consistency problems if I didn't lube after I finished playing for the day. In a day, I can get about 2 cases of paint through it before it gets noticeably impacted... but one case and sitting for a week or two will provide the same issues.
