Matrix questions

Hi, my name is Andrew and I have a problem: I really want a trix, but I don't want to spend big bucks on one just yet. It will be my first real tournament level marker (at least I hope it will be considered tournament level). What I need to know is what exactly I should look into.

I know the gen-e matrices are a little older and I could probably get one relatively cheap, but do they perform? LED is fine by me, I don't need the LCD screen to tell me how many balls I have shot etc. etc. I don't even care if it has eyes. I plan on upgrading it slowly over time to make it meet my needs as I develop as a player. Basically I want a bare bones trix that I can love and cherish and make into my very own mowing machine.

Please inform me what you guys think will be best suited to me. Would a gen-e suit me, or should I get a DM3, DM4 is a bit out of my price range, and it is really too much gun for me at this point. Help me out.

Alternatively, is a trix really the gun for me, or would something else better meet my expectations? I'm really interested in trixes, but if people in the Matrix forum can persuade me otherwise, I would take it to heart.

I almost bought a gen-e led this fall, before realizing that I wouldn't be able to use it all winter, so it would be a bit of waste, so I held off, now I need to better inform myself to ensure I make the right decision. Thanks in advance.

Those usually seem to run for about $800 on PBN, whereas I could get a gen-e led for like $500. 0?

a Dye Matrix lcd? 800$? Are you talking about in canadian? Cause that would make sense. I had an LED trix f/s a while ago, but that's another story.

If you like heavy markers or you play back then the trix is for you. You can do many things to a trix, milling is a must if you like it looking good, and a good anno. You can get a Gen-E led trix for about 500 american give or take a few dollars.
This is from experience if you can find a stock LED trix I mean STOCK it will have a Centerflag regulator
Old Image Bolt kit maybe even older
No gun 20 chip maybe gun 12
high rise breach and detents
either cp barrel or j&J barrel
and other old gear

In order the best to do for a stock Led Trix
CCM Clamp Low Rise
Dye UL
Tadao 5.0
ACE
Evolve Bolt Kit
CP Reg or Dye Hyper II
AKA SCM
NDZ Breech

The list can go on a little further I can't remember the rest you can do

Trix's are not very complicated, the only real problems you might have is if you don't know how to set the lpr correctly and efficiently. Or the bolt and its o-rings. They do have a lot of o-rings, but if you lube often enough and correctly, you shouldn't have a problem.

A nice trademark of trix's are NO KICK and ball on ball accuracy., I hope you have fun building your trix. I would suggest buying a pre-aced matrix.

Like a STOCK Dye Matrix.

I actually play front, but the weight isn't a concern, should the size/profile be a concern? I guess I am leaning more towards LCD's after hearing what everyone has had to say. $650 for an ACED LCD dye trix is appealing. Could I get some more information about tadao, I thought it was a chip, but then I hear about these 12 and 20 chips. AKA SCM means nothing to me, as does NDZ breech. I know the evolve is a bolt kit, but I'm not sure what the advantage is, over say an image bolt kit? More details about these if possible.

I haven't completely given up on upgrading an old LED matrix, because it still appeals to me to fully customize my own older marker, but will it even compare to a newer one with same upgrades, are all upgrades compatible with both the old and the new?

I sold the trix in my sig for $700. So maybe that can give you an idea, I've seen dye lcds go for cheaper.

Can someone please give me some information on the different bolt upgrades and board upgrades? I would also like to know what AKA SCM means, as well as NDZ breech.

Tha Tadao board is a board.. On the board is a chip. The old LED trix boards used to come with a chip called the gun12 chip. It was later upgraded to a gun20 chip. If you get a tadao board you really dont have to worry about the technical stuff with the chips.

The AKA SCM is the AKA "Soda Can Mod" It's an LPR that, once set, is self compensating and doesnt need to be reset. The Dye 2k4 Mini LPR is a clone of the SCM.

Ok, thanks so, the gun will come with a stock board, and I can upgrade to Tadao, are there any other upgrade boards availalble? And I assume there are upgrade chips available as well. When you get eyes, do you need to put a new chip in the board or how does that work? The electronics are all basically a mystery to me at this point, like I understand how circuits work, just not what is available or what does what in terms of paintball. Is the AKA SCM better than the CP reg, I know that AKA is known for having top of the line regs and stuff, but have also heard a great deal of good things about the CP reg. What is the NDZ breech? I think NDZ is a company, and the breech is the part where the ball detent is and the reg and barrel screw into? Probably wrong, but that's why I'm asking.

There are some other boards such as the anderson board and no need for a chip cus the new board replaces everything. The new board will work with eyes or without eyes, tadao that is. The SCM is an lpr (low pressure regulator) while the cp reg in an inline reg, both are for different functions. Both those choices are great. The NDZ breech is just an after market breech made by New DesignZ. Yes the breech is were the ball detents, eyes, feedneck, and barrel attach to.

Ok, cool thanks, I thought that an LPR was just an inline reg that was designed for lower pressures, thanks for the info, so its the thing that sticks out the front of the breech below the barrel? What do the different levels of Tadao do, maybe I'm making this up, but I thought I'd heard of tadao 1.0 and 4.0 and 5.0 etc. or maybe that was just WAS? Is WAS only for other markers, or is it compatible with Trixes? Anything else you think I should know? Thanks in advance.

Yea the lpr is under the barrel infront of the breech. And yea theres different versions of tadao, I don't really pay attention to them, just get the best one. lol WAS is mainly for timmys and some other guns, but people have ghetto rigged guns with WAS I guess.

If you have any other questions just ask.

What exactly are bolt kits? I know barrel kits are basically a bunch of different barrels with different bores so that you have the right p2b match, but I can't see how that would work with a bolt. Is it just a bolt upgrade kit? I know the matrix bolts are much more complicated than most other bolts (at least I'm pretty sure), and I know that different bolt upgrades provide better efficiency, but what exactly comes in a 'bolt kit' and do they offer any other benfits other than gas efficiency?

Ok bolt kits for matrices are the best upgrade you could get. They increase the air effciency and consistancy by upgrading the entire bolt system. They basically call it a bolt kit because it comes with all 7-8 parts not sure of the bolt. And yes the bolt is completely pnuematic meaning it has no springs or rams or anything.

you get a bolt kit because it comes with parts to replace everything i your current bolt kit. With a matrix you dont just have a hammer and bolt like a sear tripper or somthing. You have a whole kit. To see all the parts look in Bunkertimes cleaning info in this section.
