Stop taking me to the bottom of the page!

why whenever I click on a thread, it takes me to the very bottom of the thread? it gets really annoying having to scroll up to the top every time I want to read it. any ideas?

It's because the forum links are set to view the latest reply to the thread when clicked. That's why it takes you to the bottom.

I believe it is an internet explorer problem. There was a thread about this recently in the tech if my memory serves me right.

Lol @ IE.

It doesn't happen all the time but it is annoying when it does.

No...I'm about 90% sure what I said was right....I think I worded it weird though..

Ok, When your on the main index page, and you click on a post/thread on the right, if you hover over the thread name it says "Go to the first unread post in 'insert thread name'". Which takes you to the bottom of the page/second page of the thread, if you have previously read any of the replys to the thread.

But if you click on say Paintball Chat, then click on a thread from there, it takes you to the first post of the thread.

I have firefox and this happens to me(because that's the way the forums were coded to work).

Same problem here. We use IE at work, and that's where I notice the problem. I don't remember if it happens at home with FF or not.

oh that coudl be it. I run addbockerplus so I dont' see adds anyhow. I've also never experienced this problem.

edit: it could also be a preference setting under the user cp options.

I use adblock and filterset.g I don't see any ads, it would just scroll alll the way down and show a big dead white space and I'd have to scroll up to see any posts.

It hasn't done it in a while though.

The forum default is that it takes you to your first unread post in a thread. If your cookies don't tell it which was the last unread post, it will take you to the bottom of the page. Setting your browser to allow all cookies from this site may solve the problem, though even I've noticed Vbulletin (our forums software) isn't perfect with this either, it will still sometimes default to bottom of page if it has a problem reading your cookies. I think it also has something to do with the way it loads, but I'm not really sure.

I cannot find anything in admincp to fix this, but that does not mean it's not there. I am talking to someone that may direct me to the solution.

I'm helping to look into this problem. Can you guys tell me where you're clicking these threads from? Are you clicking the thread title from the forum home page, a subforum list of threads or the New Posts page?

Does this happen to all threads or only to ones marked as having new unread posts?

If this is happening to you, please let us know what browser you are using and what version.

Cobra I have a feeling some of the ads are causing the problems.

I blocked flash from running when a page loads on my machine and it's stopped taking me to the bottom or close to it. But once I unblock flash it starts to do it again.

EDIT:
I have tried this on several machines and different browsers and it seems to be the same story

Can you tell me what page you're clicking on when trying to open a thread? Each page has slightly different code for displaying the links and that might be related.

will take me to the ads and not the bottom of the page

https://www.paintballforum.com/forum-...ml#post2084669

will take me to the ad then to the last post on the page.

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear earlier. I meant, can you tell me specifically which page you were on that had the link to get you to those threads.

Are you clicking on threads from the main forum list (https://www.paintballforum.com/)

or a sub-forum listing (eg https://www.paintballforum.com/forum-tech-support/)

or the New Posts page (https://www.paintballforum.com/search.php?do=getnew)

or some other page.

Each of these pages uses a slightly different bit of code. I can't seem to recreate the problem myself, but if I can look at the code and know which ones work correctly and which ones don't, I can see where the problem might be coming from. There could be something in the code that is incorrectly directing you to the wrong place, or may contain something that is conflicting with an ad.
