Post count

I say that the post count should be removed. It makes some members look like newbs and others look like serious post whores. I only have 7 posts cuz I haven't been here long but someone brought it up and I think it's a great idea. It either needs to be removed or either set up to where posts in the lounge don't count. It just has no purpose other than saying that you have a lot of posts.

I agree with you just due to the fact it's pretty much established who knows a lot in certain forums, also its easy for anyone to get a lot of posts, but not easy to know a lot about the sport, look at avanters hes gone from 150 to almost 500 now in a matter of 2 days(not flamin ya bro, just makin a point)

Thumbs up

I agree wholeheartedly. The only thing I like about PBN is that there is no post count, so therefore you can't get judged by your low (or high) number of posts.

That will end a lot of the new-user flaming that we have so much of a problem with as well...you may know people because of name recognition, but there are so many active members that other than them there will be no open door for an instant judgement.

I hope this does happen, we would get rid of the ridiculous food chain we have here (supporter > forum regular > new user). It's about time we put a stop to it, and if there was ever a time that this was possible (and useful) to start with a clean slate it's now.

It doesn't really make a difference to me. All you have to do is check the persons average posts per day and you can tell if they're a post whore or not. It does make new users feel small and tiny, but if post counts do not matter, then why does it bother them?

I respect you Duo, but i've never seen what you're talking about. The "food chain" with supporter > forum regular > new user. The only thing i have seen, is vets > new guys. Even if you take out the post count, the month and year they joined is still there.

I personally try to help new people out, i very rarely flame, though recent events has caused me to increase that amount. I get a lot of IM's from people on the forum that are new. New guys go to the older guys for help, that's just how it is. Taking away something like a post count may make good things like that suffer.

My vote, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

if they don't get rid of it, just make it to where the lounge doesn't add to post count

Why does it even matter? Posts mean nothing. Leave it alone.

WTF.

Leave the damn post count on.

XXXfireXXXX you are a forum newb and deserve to look like a forum newb until you are not.

Not to mention that this HAS BEEN DISCUSSED ALREADY on the old forum. And it was thrown out because the idea was so gay.

Paint Balls deserves his 10k posts.

And way to make this even more like other sites with post count of in lounge.

Guess what other site has no post count showing??????? PBN!!!

You have only been here a few days, you are at no means to suggest anything.

Oh an you are a newb...way to create a thread called "thinking about getting nitro"

Most people with low posts counts are newbs, and posts are an important part of this forum soceity.

The post count does not bother me.

When people spam, I just delete it. Eventually they learn that spamming is pointless.

I might prefer it if it was just visible to mods, or even prefered members, but otherwise it doesnt really matter to me.

When I first joined (not that long ago,) I could tell who was a vet and who wasn't by the post counts (and post/day.) Whenever I asked for advice, it made it easy to differentiate (sp?) who was just trying to sound smart, and who actually knew what they were talking about. *looks HP's way.* It may not be a perfect system, but it's alot better than just having to guess who was a blow-hard, and who wasn't.

I aint a paintball newb, just a newb to this site. I don't care if you think it's a gay idea, but someone who posts all the time in the lounge and has 10000 posts *no names, just thinkin up an example* and someone who has 300 posts all in pb chat are going to be asked for information on their post count just cuz they have more posts and ppl prob think they have more experience when in truth they have no helpfulness because they only chat in the lounge. Oh, and by the way, I've never used nitro or hpa so I don't know the first thing about it. I'm used to co2 b/c that's all that my field sells and all that I can afford but I'm getting a job this friday and i'll be able to buy better gun and better systems.

I don't really care if you think it's gay or anything, someone said something about it in a post a while back, I thought it was a good idea so I posted it. But I'm not going to sit and argue just about this.

If you know your stuff then it really doesn't matter if you have a low post count, you'll eventually get recognized by posting your knowledge. Most of the members with higher post counts know their stuff and it helps newbs pick out people who they might want to PM or ask certain questions and give trust to. I say leave the count.

I'll agree with that one, the lounge is what a lot of people use to up there post count.

I personaly think that the post count should stay. It doesnt signify you know alot about paintball, thats true, but it does signify you know your way around the forum, and a new member can learn from what higher post counted members say/do so there is a better chance that they follow the rules.

The Lounge idea isn't a bad one. Since all arguments issued so far talk about new members knowing who's experienced, taking away lounge posts would prevent confusion.

That one gets my vote. (For whatever little it's worth.)

keep post count, but remove it from the lounge. that way we can see who truely is a spammer and who isnt. a higher post count would mean they seem fairly knowledgeble about PAINTBALL, not the new ebaums video...

and avanters... reccomend to cobra? or reccomend to YOURSELF!

I'm new to the forum. I would normally be whining to take it off like xxxfirexxx, but I'm not. Keep it on..from someone with a low post count.
