new are for the lounge...

i just copied this from an earlier post, so please disregard parts that don't make sense... its basiclly about setting up a politics forum...

Duo I agree with your thoughts on the media, i'm not taking sides one this... (mainly cause i'll have spud and HP against me and that wont be pretty) but what i think there should be is a sub part of the forum for politics have a panel of people (mods, supers, admins normal people) then let anyone that wants into the sub forum initally in then if they flame or just make no political sense the panel "locks" them out of the sub forum... i love having political debates with people its a good ay to learn things but there is a difference between a debate and a flame which is sadly what alot of political posts turn into...

what do you guys think?

I think that would be a pretty good addition...though it might just turn into the "I Hate Kerry" forum....

Thumbs up

I think it'd be great to have a politics forum, but we would have to moderate it VERY closely to avoid massive flames since politics brings out the worst in people (or so it seems).

The great thing about a politics subforum is that we could make sure that those posting in there actually have an opinion and intelligence to show for it. Obviously people may perceive that the staff are letting in people with certain viewpoints (and therefore controlling the direction of the discussion), but to counter that there are many different people that I've seen with great political knowledge and intelligence, and their ideas and views are all over the board so variety isn't a problem.

I'm all for it, but seeing that the forum has IMMENSE potential to flame might turn off the admins from the idea. If it does get created, we'd almost certainly need to have a dedicated admin to keep it civil in there.

If executed right it could be a great addition. Your right though, it would require massive amounts of moderation control.

I think that this will be a moderator nightmare as well as lead to unending flames like wildfire. I support the idea for frank discussion, but I really don't see this turning into anything more then "Kerry/Bush/God sux" and really raise the ire of all the parties involved.

There are a few subjects that you can not have civil discussions in because of the vehemence that most folks display - religion and politics. Where do you draw the line? Would discussions of abortion be allowed for instance -- it’s a very political issue as well as a moral one, and one of the most diverse level of opinion of all the topics out there. Can you see the membership have a non-threatening and informed conversation about this? I am not so sure. Look what happens when someone posts a simple "I don't like Tippman/spyder/whatever” thread – bashing of the nth degree!. Do we really want to put a moderator through the wringer like this?

This is a paintball forum. There are political forums galore. I say we not add to the mishmash and concentrate instead on being one of the best PAINTBALL forums out there.
