Halo V35 Review

This is an introduction to the world of hoppers, if you are new to this site and are wondering(Which One?) well i am here to tell you about the Halo B with rip-drive and V35 victory board. Halo V35 for short.

Lets start with the hopper itself, When you get the box and you open it up, you notice a shell, a lid, and a little screw or grip on the bottom. If you got the regualar Halo B you have a snap on lid,and no screw on the bottom which is called a rip drive. But, if you upgraded to the V35 you get an magnetic lid. Nothin to it.

Lets get on the shell, it has two halves kept together with 6 screws varying in length. These screws are all phillips headed. The shell also has a battery door in the front which is opened using a 7th screw. Once you open the door out will fall out a cradle that you put 6 AA batteries into. This will render the hopper active. Pressing and holding the button on the rear of the hopper will in turn activate the motor rotating the drive cone.

As you can see the rip drive is turning. this is normal. The hopper uses one pair of eyes to sense if a ball is infront of them this inturn tells the motor to spin. Now its tiem to speak abot the inside. The shell holds 180 paintballs that by the desighn are guided into the S4 drive wheel(the drive wheel has five paddles that are formed to be very gentle on the paintballs while exerting maximum force on them) then down into the ballstack or raceway. The drive cone is spring loaded, this causes a little bit of torque or pressure on the stack of paintballs in the raceway expelling them quicker which helps the motor alot, For example you have some torque on the spring so when you shoot the spring loads the first few balls depending on the tension.

These hoppers were the first and are tried and true, these are proven not to break easily, with proper maintenece they will last a very long time.

Maintenace and Cleaning

This is really tedious and very long, but must be mentioned. What needs to be done is a very long process. The first thing to do is to open the shell by unscrewing all 7 screws and breaking the the shells up into the two peices( don't really break them !) now clean with rubbing alcholol or water with soap in it, rubbing in a very circular motion to clean all the grease, muck and paint or paintshells that are visible. this includes cleaning the blue colored crown that holds the drive cone. Keep this clean, very important. After cleaning everything take any cream that has vitamin E in it and aplly to a cotton ball, rub the entire shell in a circular motion until the cream is rubbed into the shell. Remove with a cotton ball in you guessed it a circular motion. This not only freshens the smell of the shell but it makes it srtonger. That sums up cleaning and make sure to clean any visible paint parphernalia on the hopper, oh and don't get any water near the the eyes ( two very small light emmiting diods) near the ball stack or the raceway, and don't get any water near the board either. Thats it!!

Board Settings

This is the most easy and important step on the Halo V35. If you want to change setting on your board you must hold down the button for a while. when the green light comes on and starts to flash. Count how many green lights are before and after the red flash. Now lets say i am in the default setting which is 3 flashes, and the hopper is off. I press the button and hold it when we get our series of blinks i press the button once that puts me in setting 4, the series should now be 4 blinks before and after the red flash. I press it 3 times more that put me in setting 1.

The settings change your BPS (Balls per second taht are loaded) which are told to you in the manual which you should read. Here is my list of the setting with factory speeds and actual speeds tested with 100 tournament grade paint. Draxxus Gold to be exact.

Factory Said/Actually

Setting 1: 17Bps/ 10Bps
Setting 2: 21Bps/ 12.5Bps
Setting 3: 24Bps/ 15.5Bps
Setting 4: 28Bps/ 20Bps
Setting 5: 32Bps/ 23Bps
Setting 6: 35Bps/ 29.5Bps

All these are done with a stop watch each setting is tested three time then the times are averaged to get the number so no telling me these are wrong they are averages taht i got with fresh batteries. This one was done with a virtue crown onto a moving drive cone at each setting three times as stated above, and the clock started when the first ball fell out of the bottom.

What is the rip-drive?

The rip-drive must sound to a new player like a very super-duper thing to have and it is. While playing your batteries die OMG!! well dont be afraid crank that drive until it stops and continue shooting up to 15 balls! That is the difference between life and death out on the field. What this does is you manually rotate the motor and the gears inside the crown of the hopper moving the drive cone, this is where the spring loaded cone comes in handy this winds the cone up to keep feeding balls into the stack until the tension is realeased. Great Huh??

When you lift your lid?

When you lift your lid you will see the blue crown and, What ! Beads, yes, these are the one and only anti-jam system. Along with the spring this pair is the best and only primative way to stop jamming on the Halo V35. Until, now in the year 2008 we inveted the freeway anti-jam, this is a highly recommeded upgrade and will stop the popcorning effect that the stock anti-jam gives you.

Upgrades, how could i forget

This is the final entry for the topic, the upgrades. What you have right now is an already awesome hopper but you can make it more asthetically pleasing and give it a boost in performance these include.

The Magna Drive
New shells
New Boards
New rip wheels
New Boards
Laser eyes
and many more...

THE PROS

Great tried and true hopper
Great easy to find parts
awesome performance
Magnetic lid (only on V35)
Slim desighn
Great ball capacity
Great price
Eye Acticated (some people consider a con)
Great relaibility

The Cons

Quite heavy
the popcorn effect of the anti-jam
If the regular Halo B rough on paint
Has inconsistent feeding as a break in the stream of paint is visible as the motor recoils.
Feedneck breaks are'nt cheap (not likely unless you play like a wildebeast)
Uses AA batteries

Thank you for reading into one of the best hoppers in the world, by far the most used, by far the most believed in. But, we can't forget about the other hoppers that make paintball what it is today such as the:

The Vlocity
The Vlocity Jr.
The Empire B and B2
The Pinokio
The Rotor
The Prophecy
The Magna Drive
The Jrny
The Evolution I,II, and III
The Fasta
The Revolution
The Richochet series
The Halo Tsa
The Eye Force
The Q-Loader
And the one and only The gravity-fed Viewloader 200 which without we would not have electric hoppers. Just remember that.

Thanks again now for the critique, if i missed something just PM or comment, And if anyone has any questions i will be more than happy to answer them at [email protected] Thank you very much. I love paintball and i want to keep it a sport. Ok before i leave below is a picture of a clear shelled Halo B, The Magna Drive and The rip-drive

not bad, but you make it sound like the v35 is a one size fits all kind of thing, its fine that you have a review just dont tell new players that this is automatically the hopper for them, it is actually not a great choice for a new player

o and also, the drive cone is not sping loaded for anti-jam porposes, it is spring loaded to get a new ball in the breach before the motor ever has to kick in

pretty detailed review though

thanks and my bad

Well, sorry you got that message. But, what i went for is a review for a new player going into speedball or just want a hopper that will keep up with his E-griped Bt-4. I was just saying that it is a good hopper, but i also paid tribute to the other hoppers of paintball this is just an all round review of the Halo V35, and i change the spring loaded drive cone part. When i get out of school; Thanks for the positive critique.

there is enoufgh stickies as is, if we start stickying every review someone does the whole first page will be reviews on a lot of the forums

if you did a complete review of every loader on the market that may be another issue but not just for 1, and 1 that not a lot of people own

Cool, I plan on getting the Halo V35, with a Spyder VS1, then using it for a Smart Parts Ion XE, for the VS1, what setting should I set the hopper to? Also, how often should I clean the hopper? Also, is it one of the better hoppers out there in your opinion, because for 109 bucks, I want quality. Another also, how long on average do the batteries last? And, as my first paintball gun/hopper would it be good? I'm pretty good at fixing things, and not breaking them.
Thanks.

id get a empire reloader over the v35, its rated to 32 bps and is about $60, plus all the parts (except the board) are the exact same as the halo, as for batteries, i gennerally changed mine every 10 cases or so (i only have the 4 AA pack though so idk how long it lasts with 6) plus sound activation beats out eyes for a hopper, maintanance is not the easiest on these hoppers though, you have to split the shell to really clean it, if you want to throw an extra $30 at it i suggest getting a suicide shell, they make it so you do not have to dismantal the whole thing in order to clean it. for the markers you are putting it on you will never be able to get into the 30bps range anyway (and you will probably never use anything above 15 in all reality) so getting something thats rated to 35 is kinda pointless

I've watched both of these loaders have issues. The regular halo is just as reliable as an empire.

if you know how the board works on the empire you will never have problems getting it to feed

most common problem is it does not register a fire, but what a lot of people dont know is the board, when turned on, takes a baseline reading of the surrounding sound level, so if you turn it on somewhere noisy it will not always register a fire since it will have to be loud enoufgh to get above that baseline, best idea is to turn it on somewhere quiet and dont turn it off the whole day, its good on batteries. once i learned that i never had another problem....then i got a rotor

^^That's actually the reason I like the HaloB over the Empire. You can always tell the guys that have empires because they walk FAR, FAR, FAR away to turn their gear on. The B2/Magna/Prophecy board fixes that, with preset levels instead of a baseline.

I despise ReloaderB because of the baseline sound activation thing. Any other sound activated board, I like.
