HELP! Is this gun worth the money?

I ma a newcomer to the paintball world, played it twice now and im hooked. Ive been searching craigslist for a gun to get started, but want a decent one i can use for a while and not be wanting a better one in a month. I came across a Spyder Electra DX, and seems to me to be a decent gun after looking at what reviews i could find. I understand its an older gun that isnt made anymore, but still seems to be pretty good. It is being sold for $100 and i am going tomorrow to shoot it to make sure everything works properly. If it is in good condition, is it worth it or should i search for a better one for around the same price.

Here is a link to the craigslist add for it - Spyder Electra DX digital LED paintball gun

Please let me know what you guys think, i really appreciate it!

ya thats not a bad package for $100, while the dx is a little old spyder parts are pretty unaversal so if anything breaks chances are you can get it fixed

save up some money for a nice mask, its your most important piece of equipment so dont go cheap, find one with a thermal lens (also known as a double lens) so it will not fog up on you

Thanks Trbo, looking over the forum you seem like a very knowledgable guy, so i appreciate your info. I agree with you on getting a nice mask. The last two times i went, my buddy lat me use his spare equipment which is a Tippmann 98 Custom and a Tippman mask, and he said i can use that mask until i can get my own, but i want a better one than that. It seemed alright for all the games we played in the morning, but after it got hot outside and i was breathing hard it seemed to fog up which made it very hard to play with. I told him to let me borrow his good mask instead, not sure what kind it is, but he didnt go for it!

Anyways, thanks for you input! Hopefully some more, maybe someone that has this gun....

ya well.....the sig says it all.....

lol, i dont know everything but im willing to share what i do know. tippmann masks are all single pane so thats why it was fogging up on you, best idea when shopping for a mask is to go to a shop and try a bunch on, make sure they leave no gaps between the foam and your face and buy the one that fits you best and has a thermal lens regardless of the price, it may be hard when your on a budget but trust me, it will pay off in the long run

as for the electra, those things are pretty good markers, i would suggest getting a 20oz co2 tank, that 9oz will only last you about 500 shots on that marker

I'd go for anywhere from 12, 16, or 20 oz tanks

The Electra, as with all STBB markers are very simple and easy to maintain and fix should anything bad happen to it

If you need a good but cheap mask, the V-Force Vantage Pro masks are great, as well as the Vents Helix
Past that, any of the more expensive masks from reputable companies will be fine

Not AZN level price, there's not too many electro markers priced at the same level as the Talon.

Thanks a lot guys, i appreciate it! I already have a 20oz co2 tank that my buddy let me have, so im good there. Eventually I wanna get a HPA tank, but looking through the forums i gathered that i shouldnt get one until i can afford a 4500 psi tank. I will have to check out those masks you mentioned Invazn, that will be my next purchase. That gun comes with an electronic hopper, but im guessing it isnt a great one, do you guys think it will be able to keep up with the gun just fine or will i eventually want to get a new one? I dont wanna be choppin balls out on the field.

Welli just found another for sale. It is a Spyder Shutter with some extras for $100. Which gun is better out of these two?

Here is the link for you to read the listing - Spyder Shutter Paintball Gun

id pass up on the shutter and go for the electra, whoever had that shutter didnt know what they were really doing

heres the issue

"drop line is not steel braid"

if you are running co2 you need to have a steel braided line, they also mention a pressure guage but that does nothing on a co2 setup, kinda sounds like the shutter was used with HPA for a while but for some reason they are not selling a HPA tank with it

also, your an awsome new member to read through the other threads, most people dont and end up asking the same questions over again. and yes, its not really worth getting a small HPA tank, just save your money and get a nice 4500 the first time

Ok Trbo and Invazn i need you guys now more than ever! I bought the Electra DX and it has a couple problems, i believe them to be minor so i still bought it. I was able to still try it out and really liked it, but need to replace a couple things on it.

The first thing i need to replace is the plastic dilly thingy(lol) that connects the gun to the hopper, it is broken and definitely need a new one. If you can let me know what replacement will be best for this gun and point me in the right direction to get one.

The second one also seemed minor, but im having a rough time finding what i need. The steel braided hose leeks co2 when i turn it up at all. It isnt even to the green part of the dial and it is leeking out the hose. It isnt the fittings, it is right in the middle of the hose. I have been looking on the internet, and cant find one that fits this gun, so i dont know what to do. I found ones for a lot of spyder guns but the electra and electra dx are excluded from the list. I also found ones that fit every other marker out there, but they arent the same either. This is what i really need help with, and if you guys could do so, it will be greatly appreciated!!!

You can call me AZN
That's what everyone here does

On to more pressing matters

Definitely get a metal clamping feedneck
It will give your marker a lower profile and grab onto your loader much better
You will want to get a Spyder Feedneck WITH Holes

The reason why you're having trouble finding steel Braided Hose to fit is because the hose on Spyders are metric threaded

Thanks for the info on the feedneck, do you have a brand in mind i should go with? Does the feedneck for my gun fit other spyders as well?

So what do i do about the steel braided hose? The metric ones i found fit a lot os spyders but excludes the electra and electra dx, how do i find the one i need?

The cheapest feedneck that's made out of metal will be fine

And about the hose, seriously?
I have a replacement part that might fit by replacing the whole front grip and ASA, but it would cost money

Nope
As far as I know, they aren't

Perhaps I'm wrong though, maybe the DX is different
