Tips on upgrading my first gun

Hi everyone. I'm new to paintball I started in April and got my first marker - a spyder victor, as a 13nth birthday present. Hey, I know the victor is by no stretch a great gun, but I would say that I'm not that bad actually, so when I ask you my question, please don't just tell me "get a new gun" thank you. So I'm primarily a woodsball player, I've only been to an arena once and I like woodsball more, so I'll stick with upgrades that would benifit woodsball. I was wanting to get better range, as I'm primarily a defence, and to many times have i been defending my flag, see a guy far off in the bushes, and can't hit him because he isn't in range, the sound alerts him I'm hiding behind a tree waiting to own him, and in the blink of an eye a guy is unloading his hopper on me (still manage to get most of them with assistance but still.) So anyway, I was thinking maybe a new barrel, I was considering a 12 or 14 inch, would this make sense, and do most barrels fit spyders? Is there a way to tell if it will go on properly? Also would anything else help my range, and please tell me the name, not just an abreviation, I'm still learning my paintball slang terms lol.

Thanks for all your support, because this is a great hobby and I cant see myself putting it down anytime soon.

P.S. Is there any way to adjust my trigger a bit so it has an easier pull? It's by no means hard to do of course, but my trigger finger just doesn't seem to keep up with everyone elses. Thanks again

All paintballs (at the same velocity, which should be about the same) will go the same distance. You cannot increase range.
A new barrel may be good. Get a J&J Ceramic Spyder Barrel. You will know if a barrel will fit a certain gun because the barrel will be labeled (not literally labeled on the barrel) a Spyder threaded barrel.
You cannot walk the trigger on a mech gun (not counting Mags). Try and pull with both fingers at the same time instead of actually walking the trigger.

J&Js are fantastic barrels, if you chrono your marker in you will have the same range as everyone else but a aftermarket barrel will help with accuracy a bit, get used to your range so you know when to fire instead of firing early and letting someone know where you are, one of the things you will learn, and i know this sounds cliche but its true, is knowing when not to fire is often more important than when to fire.

Hopper-getting a nice e-hopper is a great investment, it will make sure you dont get any chops and can go onto a different and faster marker with no problems, one of the best buys on the market right now is the halo too at $70

HPA- HPA is a necisarry investment if you ever want to get a mid range marker, but not only will it be needed for that it will also help the performance of your current marker, it will help accuracy and consistency most noticeably, it is also easier on the o-rings on your marker, giving them longer life, if you ever play in cold weather CO2 can be a huge pain and cause lots of problems, not so with HPA, if you are going to get a HPA tank dont get a small one though thats my best advise to you, get a nice 4500 psi tank (unless you can only get 3000psi fills around you) the first time, generally a good used 68/4500 (most common size tank) will run you around $100

beyond the barrel upgrading a low end marker is just not cost effective sorry to say, they are great to get you into the sport but you can dump all the money in your bank account into them and they will still not be better than a mid range marker you can pick up for $200 so my suggestion is after the barrel for this marker get a hopper and HPA and if you want more performance than that then it is time to look into a mid range marker

as for the trigger pull i think there is a trigger spring mod you can do but i cant find a thread for it, you can get a e-frame for the victor but usually they, again, are not cost efective, the one situation i will say otherwise is if you can pick a e-frame up (most likely used) for $30 or under

Hey thanks both of you. I think I will go with a J&J ceramic barell, and then just get a new marker later on, especially because theres a pretty big local scenario game in the fall, and it looks so much fun, and although as i said im not that bad with it, i doubt a victor could compete with the angels, smartparts and tippmans. So thanks for your answers.

its more the player than the marker, a friend of mine played with a victor II for the longest time, e-frame on it and he would give me a run for my money (i shoot a high end spool) he knew how to get around the field, when to move and when not to move and he is a little on the larger side, im a stick so that just goes to show you, get enough practice in and it doesnt really matter what marker you have in your hands

i didnt even know you have another lol, i dont pay close attention to who im talking to most of the time

unless i need something specific answered, if its a spyder question you go to AZN, cocker question go to miller, and martix fills in a lot of the gaps with knowlege on a lot of things that sometimes others dont know, i know a lot about dye stuff and probably know the most about the mini around here
