09 Victor or 12 Victor?

Has anyone had a chance to compare the two? I am wanting a purely mechanical Spyder or something similar that I plan to throw a barrel, on/off ASA, and a few other odd things on. I don't want to get into replacing internals. The look of the '09 appeals to me more, but is the difference in the supposedly new valve on the '12 a significant improvement? I had also considered Azodin. I see mixed reviews on everything, so nothing is a slam-dunk. I just want a marker to play rec with every once in a while.

the 12 comes with a clamping feedneck. the 9 needs that flimsy plastic elbow.

to be honest, there's nothing wrong with azodin. they have autococker threading rather than spyder threading, which a) means more barrels available and b) if you ever do decide to upgrade, you can take your barrel with you

Thanks, huck. The Kaos-D...is the recoil dampening thing all it's cracked up to be? I guess I didn't realize just how prevalent cocker threads are.

something about reducing the weight of the hammer and tuning the springs to lower recoil. not really anything but i'd assume it does make a minute change.

but it does come stock with an ASA (over the Kaos that is).

are you hard set on a mech marker?

The guys I'm going to play with are all mechanical and asked that we keep it that way. They're shooting all Tippman and Spyder. I wanted to only because I know I'll only play every once in a while. What would you suggest?

I think that's fair. There's nothing worse than having that one guy who is shooting tons of paint, just because he's got more money to spend.

Spyder or azodin is going to be your best bet. There's also the new GOG eNvy that's pretty nice. You could always up the challenge for yourself and get a pump marker.

Oh, i'm an idiot. This opens you up to the fantastic world of autocockers and automags!

GOG eNMEy rocks socks. It is a bit more money than a basic Spyder but you get a lot more performance a mech marker doesn't mean you have to be as bare bones as a Spyder Victor.

Or he could pick up an older cocker for cheaper than the GoG pos. Honestly, given the option between Azodin and Spyder, I'd go with Azodin. They've been coming out with some pretty cool stuff lately, and their customer support is amazing.

If the eNMEy were a pos I'd agree with you.

I looked at the GOG eNMEy online. It is ugly. Aside from that I'm not sure what to think. Will it perform ok on CO2? Based on the reviews it sounds too good to be true. Does it have proprietary barrel threads? I assume so, since the ad copy I've seen doesn't say what threading it is.

The Azodin Kaos gets consistently good reviews...the Kaos-D, less so. Still looking at that.

I still have two pumps, and I may take them...but so far it's been strongly discouraged. I suppose I shouldn't take that to mean much, since I was discouraged from using them in the past in all-semi games and did just fine.

who's discouraging you? take your pump and shoot them between the eyes (on the field of course) while they're trying to rope you

forget the Kaos-D, not that I have shot one but that is a TON of extra money just for a different valve and it is still a STBB

rock the pumps, or if you want something different I am with martix, look into an autococker, you sound like you have some experience in the sport already and you can get a mechanical cocker for fairly cheap these days

Thanks for all the advice. I had a couple of local deals fall through (Craigslist can be good, but it is mostly frustrating) so I'm still hunting. My brother is the one hooking me up with this group (they're his friends), and he has no money or marker anymore (except an old school Kingman Hammer I gave him a while back) so I was planning on buying two markers. He's a grad student living with my parents, so he's broke.

I have, after all the reading, decided that for a STBB I'm going with the basic Kaos and will add an ASA and a barrel. I'm nostalgic about Spyders and want another for that reason, but the consensus seems to be that they aren't what they used to be. The GoG eNMey looks awesome for the money and I might jump on one at some point.

I was also looking at Automags, but finding one in the config I want at a price I'll pay has proven difficult. I've found deals, but they're normally gone by the time I get to them. 'Cockers are cool, but I have the least experience with them and I remember them being a bit finicky. Then again, I played for a long time with a Rainmaker and put up with that nonsense...

Pumps; god, in my other thread you guys were linking all the cool pumps available now and I want them all. I've always wanted a 'cocker-based pump. Kaos pump looks cool too. Always wanted another Phantom, a Lapco Ghost, on and on...maybe I can rock my old Trracers and convince these guys it's the way to go for fun in the woods. The big problem with that is that the way they play, it's THREE body shots for a kill. That seems strange to me, but when we were starting on our own we said shots to the hands and feet don't count. A/w, I'm fairly certain that even ten years away from the game and relatively out of shape I can out-pump most people with a semi, but am I good enough to do it three times before they can? Challenge...
