Ipod help

I got a 30 gig black 5th gen ipod (aka video ipod). I first connected it to my windows xp. Then I wanted to get some music from my sister's ibook. I plugged it in, but the ipod doesn't show on itunes. It only shows on the desktop and in finder. Any ideas how I can get it to show in itunes so I can get that music on it? It's 370 songs, so more than I can burn on a cd.

You have an XP Machine, so your iPod is formatted for windows. To get it to work for her computer you would have to completely reformat it to apple. It's not worth it. Just get a zip drive and take her music that way.

^^i guess what you could do is if you have a home network is transfer the music on your sisters ibook over to a windows machine.

Yeah. If you reformatted it, not only would it clear your music, but then it wouldn't show up on your computer and you'd have to take it in to get it reformatted to windows again.

Think of it this way. Apple sells two kinds of iPods, iPods for macs and iPods for windows. Technically, they are the same ipod, just formatted to different systems, so you trying to get your iPod to show up on her computer is like her buying a windows iPod for her mac. It just doesn't work that way.

Here's a zip drive (aka a flash drive, zip stick, etc.)

No problem. One thing though, if the music you want is music that she bought on iTunes, she'll have to put her iTunes username and password so it gives you "permission" to use it otherwise it won't work.
