My Infrared filter arrived today

I took this very quickly, it feels like it's 20 degrees outside, and there's 25mph winds. The composition sucks but you get the idea. This was a 20 second exposure i think.

whats the benefit of such a long exposure other than letting more light in?

well with an IR filter you have no choice really. the glass is pitch black, impossible to see through with the human eye. because it blocks off so much light and lets in pretty much only IR light (hence it being an IR filter), you need a longer exposure time on the camera to see anything. if i took a normal 1/80 sec shot, it would come out completely black.

long exposures without an ir filter serve a different purpose though. they're useful in getting that smooth flowing effect in running water, long trails of lights at night (such as the pics you often see of highways with long red light trails on one side, and white lights on the other), or if you want to give a creepy ghostly look to the people in your photo.

If you took a long exposure... I think your dog is dead...

NYY, you have Photoshop?

Also:
Imageshack > Photobucket
^When it comes to Hosting Size (1024 KB > 512 KB)^

Imagechack < Photobucket
^When it comes to # of pictures to upload at once (20 Pics > 1 Pic)^
