snowboarding in the northeast

i wanted to try snowboarding, i live on long island. but i was wondering if someone can give me the name of a good mountain/resort/rental place. and help me out, im looking at prices really. but yeah, if you have any reccomendations i'd really appreciate it.

currently i own:

a nice snowboarding jacket (was my older brothers)
good gloves (burton something)
pants (match the jacket)
goggles of some sort (i think smith, theyre alright)

anything else i need to buy, and what can i rent?

and when i go will i be laughed at for no being able to snowboard? (no seriosuly will i?)

From Long Island you have Hunter mtn which is close and something Creek, I'm not sure. Finding mountains near you only takes two minutes. http://newyork.skireport.com/

Sounds like the equipment you have will be fine. You may want a helmet if your clumsy, or safe. A snowboard rental generally will be around 30$ for a half day, with boots included. A lot of places also offer a deal where you can buy a lift ticket, boots, and board rental for a discounted price, and a half day lesson with that package. You might be interested in looking at one of those deal. I know for a fact that Mt. Snow (s. vt) has a deal because I did it last year. And no, you won't be laughed at. Just go at your own pace. Don't go straight to the top your first run.

Maybe if you drive up to Maine or northern VT and NH. Those are probably the only places on the east that you'll be skiing in April. March is good for a lot of places though. Theres no deadline really. I went once last year, like I said, but this year (I'm 20) I just picked it up really.
