To Move, Or Not To Move...

EDIT: NEW CIRCUMSTANCES... READ THE LAST POST FOR AN UPDATE... I KNOW THIS THREAD IS OLD.

DISCLAIMER - This is long. If you don't read it all, don't post. If you ask for a tl;dr, I will... Cry. (sarcasm)

I live in Wisconsin. For all you people that think we're a bunch of farmers that drink beer and eat cheese (don't forget brats)... You're right. For the most part. Hot summers, Cold ****ing winters. Boring state. It'd be good if I fished or hunted but, I don't. I'm not a farmer, either. I live in a hick town of about 3 thousand people... just over 400 kids in the high school. I don't have alot of "real" friends. Just people I'll talk with at school, maybe do something once a year with. (exageration) Most my friends, I met through paintball. As most of you know, there pretty much is a huge lag between Wisconsin and the rest of America in that department. I found one team that I really like, but am not on. They play D3 PSP and are the best in the area. (possibly state, if not top 3). Anyway. I'm pretty cool with them. They've been hooking me up with deals on gear and stuff, and teaching/coaching me how to play better. Overall, they're pretty kickass. I also like the field I play at alot. I get hooked up with the team discount so I play for CHEAP. But, it is still Wisconsin...

Why am I telling you this?

My mom is going back in the Air Force. Why? I really can't tell you. I can't even explain it to myself. She is prior enlisted but got out for college, my sister, and me. She got her Nursing Degree and is working in the ER. She told me she wanted to get back in and that she wanted to know what I thought. At the time it was, "Holy ****, Florida... PAINTBALL, BEACHES, SUN, WOMEN!" So she goes on with the process and now she's like a week or two away from finding out if she's accepted and I'm nervous. I don't know what I want to do.

Now, before you jump to conclusions and tell me "HOLY **** FLORIDA: PAINTBALL, BEACHES, SUN, WOMEN!" let me explain. Her first choice to be stationed is near Pensacola, Florida. If you've never heard of it, it is here:

Yeah... 7 hours from Orlando, which is where I THOUGHT we were going to be headed. Talk about getting shot down. Naturally, when I found out her first choice, I jumped onto PBN and looked up some fields. Since its so close to a military base, guess what kind of fields are around? I got kind of mad and looked at fields in Mississippi, Alabama (yikes), and Georgia. Again... Maybe nation isn't up on the fields. (I hope).

Her second choice is Tampa, which would be my preference. It is only about 45-60 minutes from orlando but there are fields local to Tampa as well... So thats where I want to go.

The ABSOLUTE earliest we would be in Florida is like mid July. That is not alot of time before school. (Considering its the absolute earliest). July... Summer... Paintball... Wait, no paintball... (unless I drive mucho hours or nation isn't updated). School starts... SENIOR YEAR. College applications, Good grades, friends... So many stresses. AAAGH! But, I'd be able to get into a florida university without the out of state fees - or so I think, I haven't looked too deep into that yet.

You're asking yourself, Why is this kid telling me this? I think I just need to write it all out and get some ACTUALLY HONEST opinions.

My mom has asked me if I still want to go and I've said I really dont' know. Its a very tough decision for me to make. She said I'd be able to stay at my aunt's house and finish off school here. I already live without my dad "full-time," but I don't know what it'd be like without my mom. It may sound gay but... Meh.

Please, I need opinions. Don't bash me and tell me I'm a douche bag or that this isn't a hard decision because it is really ****ing hard.

TO MOVE OR NOT TO MOVE... THAT IS THE QUESTION!

If you ask for a tl;dr, DIE!

-I've probably missed some things but this is long enough... I need help!

My buddy moved to GA for the military. He said there was a nice field right down the road with a few PSP teams there.

I would move. I live in Indiana, which I assume is about the same was Wisconsin.

I'd say move. If you're not really close to people in Wisconsin, then just move. You can find a field and make new/better friends in Florida. And you're mom will be happier.

lol, id stay in wisconsin. I love it here, but thats cuz i do everything a normal wisconsinite does........diet of venison, cheese, brats, hunt, fish, da packers and da brewers and da bucks, outdoors...... this is my kinda place...it just sucks tho cuz i like a rural environment, and i live in southeast wisconsin, im about a 40 minute drive from milwaukee. but id still want to be close to a large city for the sake of the convenience. In your position tho....id move.

Wisconsin sounds pretty gay.

If it were me, I probably wouldn't move because I love Kansas. I'm not in the hicktowns and all that ****, I live in the metro with like 6 million people.

I'd just move if I were YOU. From the sounds of it, you would want to get out of Wisconsin soon after highschool is over. Might as well move there now, make friends and move onto college having friends and what not.

Also, go to Tampa. I hear it's tight.

i would go, you know it will be an experience.. and then before you know it you'll be off to college anyway.

and plus you're probably moving to a more suburban/urban area anyway, so you'll be alot more eager to get used to the new environment

and colleges sort out their admissions very well.. it wont affect anything, because your HS will sort it out for you.

and as long as you're going to school there, you'll meet people quicker than you think and before you know it you'll be hanging out with some friends and it will sort itself out.. if you just look at it positive it can be an awsome change..

i dont know what it's like to move though, i've lived in this same house for 17 years

i think you're afraid of doing it all over again. Highschool, friends, etc. Don't worry about such crap. It sorts itself out, i've moved around the country many times and have had no problems, and i'm not a highly socially outgoing person either.

as for pensacola, it's a nice place. Don't ***** that it's not Tampa. It's still a great spot and a tourist destination too. On fields; pbn's database is not all en-compansing, i'd trust pbreviews field review system over it on # of fields out there. It's my understanding that Flordia is also just crawling w/ fields.

Move. Enjoy a nice climate in a place where i'm sure friends would be easily made and paintball can be done outside SO much more thanks to the weather.

Same here. My parents have been in the same house since 85' when they moved down here. They moved from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which is probably worse than Wisconsin.

Splat Attack sucks, don't move to Pensacola.

Everything's outrageously priced anywhere in Florida, and there are too many old people driving . (That's not a joke; I'm visiting my dad right now and about 3 people are killed every week in the county by people who are far too old to drive safely.) It's kind of a good idea to avoid the whole state altogether.

Swat Paintball in Ocean Springs, MS, and Bob's Paintball, just outside of Mobile, are both excellent fields. They're both within two hours of Pensacola. I play at both on a regular basis, and they both have some really good staff and players. The only problem is that there is major field rivalry between the two...

Off on a tangent, I wore a Warped Sports jersey (that I bought at Swat) over to Bob's in Mobile, and got the bonusballs from hell.

OK...

My mom is pretty much in. Yay for her. I've gotten through the pissed off, wanna stay here phase and kind of feel bad for her now. She has to leave my sister with her dad (total ass wipe) and his ***** wife... And its my senior year.

She really can't get in until around september... LATE september. This puts school about a month and a half in... If I move with her, it could possibly **** up my grades. I'm slacking right now and its really pissing me off - bad grades. I don't have to worry about college because I've decided to enlist in the military right out of high school. I just have to shed some pounds first.

Paintball is still a part of it though. I got a job reffing at a field where I play adn the team I am trying out for, its their home field. It'd be kick ass to get on the team and practice in the off-season but realistically, I wouldn't do many tourneys with them the next season because I'd be out of school and enlisting... That's a tossup.

And the whole not having a good pb field around the new area, thanks for the ideas in MS and such... But being in pensacola isn't even a sure thing. I HOPE SHE GETS STATIONED AT TAMPA IF SHE GETS IN, and I go... Because that'd be better, but I have no say in that so I don't know why I'm typing about it...

So my question:

To move, or not to move?

hm, well I wouldn't go into the military, you should hit up college first...
but sounds like theres really nothing to keep you back in WI other than one team and a field. I don' tknow how you do in school, but if you could possibly manage it, take the chance, and just suck it up for your last bit of schooling. Maybe getting a fresh start will help you. Plus when you finish your senior year, you're already in Florida. Theres quite a bit going on in the state, much more than in wisconsin. Even if you live upstate in a boring part, after school you could move down into the orlando area..
but hey, you can always drive about a solid 5 hours and come ball with me and sittin_duk. =P
