desktop dyno challenge results

ok im bored as hell today, i just quit my job and the gf is working, so here i am doing this to keep me from dying of boredom.

desktop dyno challenge, first i built a control combo on popular performance engines, one for each manufacturer (sorry i dont have rotaries or the wrx engine on my desktop dyno). Then, i did fine tuning on each one to bring to the power up, with a boost limit of 17psi

****************
just for the record, heres the control combo that is put on every motor for the first round..

heads flowing
139 110 @.200 lift
240 184 @.400 lift
178 191 @.500 lift
284 197 @.650 lift

8:1 compression
800cfm throttle
garrett T51 50-4 turbo @ 15psi
70% efficency intercooler
.510 .510 .252 .261 cam

**********************
ok, now the first round toyota 3.0 6 cylinder

325hp @ 7500rpms
269tq @ 5000rpms
***************************

first round dsm

210hp @ 7000rpms
172tq @ 4500rpms
(obviously this motor didnt like my control set-up, but the fine tune will wake it up later)

***************************

first round honda

198hp @ 7500rpms
159tq @ 5000rpms

**************************

first round nissan (6 cylinder)

327hp @ 7500rpms
267tq @ 5000rpms

***************************

and of course i gotta throw in alil american power, lol

chevy 350 first round

472hp @ 5500rpms
509tq @ 3500rpms

****************************

ford 5.0 first round

477hp @ 6500 rpms
451tq @ 4500 rpms
******************************

ROUND 2
ok, this round, same motors, im just fine tuning the turbo specs, and the cam specs, alil duration here, alil overlap there, and try and tune the numbers as high as possible, this takes a while. keep in mind im keeping the combos mild because these are street/strip set-ups, not full out race-cars. im keeping this realistic

******************************
second round toyota

437hp @ 9000rpms
277tq @ 7500rpms
********************************

second round dsm

275hp @ 8000rpms
190tq @ 6000rpms

********************************

second round honda
258hp @ 8500rpms
161tq @ 7500rpms

***************************

second round nissan
442hp @ 9000rpms
276hp @ 7500rpms

****************************

second round chevy

701hp @ 7500rpms
562tq @ 6000rpms

***************************

second round ford

712hp @ 8000rpms
502tq @ 6500rpms

******************************

ok well i hope some of ya'll apreciate this, these motors were fine tuned to the extreme, so this kinda proves which motors give u the most bang for the effort (honda loses the 4 cylinder battle to DSM, nissan wins the 6 cylinder battle, and that ford 302 just loves boost and beat the chevy). and obviously this proves why domestic guys dont do turbo's too often, cause we dont have a use for 700hp on the street, lol

Why use the 302 for Ford? Fords comparable engine to the 350 was the 351. Chevy's version of the 5.0L was the 305.

By the way, can you put other engines into that thing? I want to see what it says the 327 in the '32 will make.

302 is fords default performance engine u see in 80% of the late model perfromance mustange, 350 is the default engine seen in 80% of late model performance camaros,

funny part is, the 302 has more power with this combo, that 302 sure does like its boost

and the chevy 5.0 is a disgrace, its not a performance motor at all, its got WAY too much stroke for the amount of bore it has, which just gives it some torque, so it feels fast, and get get somewhat decent gas mileage. Ford 5.0 has alot of bore, bore makes power (the chevy 302 has the same bore/stroke, and makes about 1 more hp then the ford does with this combo)

yea no problem ,if u can give me all the cam card, and the specs, i can give u the exact desktop dyno estimate, which is surprisngly close to actual power ratings (my chevelle, was rated at [email protected] 4800 rpms and 410tq @ 3200 rpms, but back then chevy put on headers and high flow carbs and stuff to get the factory numbers up, with my current set-up, which is just carb/headers/ignition/intake, desktop dyno says 330hp @ 4500 rpms and 425 tq @ 3500 rpms)

well thats why im a chevy guy those stock blocks will take way more power then 700, the crank and rods are another story though

well i doubt the honda will handle 17 psi and 8500rpms either

what about the dsm? can it handle 17 psi and close to 9000rpms stock?

4g63 can handle 20psi, 350-400hp all on the stock bock.

I wouldn't recomend it though.. but they are beefy motors.

Our mechanic's son has a daily driven 5.0L SN95 that makes 500hp on boost and the mechanic has a 550hp turbo fox body that he drives every other day. Both have been completely reliable, and the fox body's setup is atleast 5 years old. Both use the stock block and pistons.

I'm just saying, they are notorious for doing that.

I love 5.0s, I'd love to own one.
