Man, and I'm happy to see $2.69...
Average is probably $2.75 around here.

In mid/northern indiana they've been hanging around 2.30

I can't imagine them staying under $2.00 for very long.

there 2.39 in annapolis. Annapolis gets screwed with gas, we are normally 5-10 more than most other places in maryland. I should buy alot of gas containers and fill them up before the gas go back to 2.80 again.

Yes, that makes perfect sense, OPEC wants the republicans in office, so they're dropping gas prices...

The elections have absolutely nothing to do with gas prices. The prices are going down because it's the end of summer, there haven't been any huge hurricanes, and tensions are easing in the middle east.

Don't worry, it will go back up soon. People and buisnesses are going to start filling their heating oil tanks for winter now which will drive prices back up. THe only thing that might save us is if we have a mild winter.

It's at roughly 2.20 for the past week here. It's the first time it has been below 2.30 since before Katrina.

I remember we went to a concert downstate one week and it was 2.33 and this was on like a 2 week rise. Before that it was steadily roughly 2.00. One week later Katrina started to tear America a new one and it hasn't been the same since. Hell, only about 2 months ago we were up at 3.09 again.

No he's got a legitimate point. I was pondering this concept like, last week.

OPEC knows the US is a big market, they know that democrats would probably push harder for greener laws, they know the current President is in office thanks to large support from oil industries, and they know that republcians are all around much more oil friendly. So if you say that the US elections have NOTHING! to do with OPEC production, I'd say you're kidding yourself, because if I was in OPEC, I know I wouldn't mind taking a couple months of less profit to maybe help ensure that the people I want in office remain in office.

BTW, how long have tensions been easing in the middle east? I would love to hear that little foreign policy story...

That logic doesn't make sense. Though it's true the democrats generally push for harder environmental laws, dems also oppose domestic drilling. They don't care so much where it's coming from as they care about if it's being drilled period. And nobody is stupid enough to believe that we can harness some alternate energy source and put it into use within the next senate term, so if dems get elected, our reliance on mid east oil is much greater.
