Help me find a new truck

It seems as if the more money we pour into my Ranger, the more goes wrong. It might be time for a 'new' truck. Here's what I want, you guys pick make, model & year(s):

1.)Price needs to be reasonable - probably $10k or under. I know this limits the choices severely.
2.)Able to tow/haul things without sucking. Possibilities include firewood all the way up to my trailer & race car, tools, etc.
3.)Diesel or gas. Would prefer diesel, but I don't know if there are any in my price range.
4.)Gas mileage - So right in the middle of typing this thread (this part of it, too) I got a call from my fiance, saying her brother ran off the road. I took my dad's '06 F-150, and pulled him out without any effort at all. Let's just say gas mileage is not a big deal anymore...
4.)4 wheel drive, preferably without the locking hubs (auto-locking or whatever).
5.)Crew cab or extended cab.
6.)Manual or automatic - don't care.
7.)Extremely reliable engine & power-train. You know, one of those trucks that you could leave sitting for 30 years and it'd start right up. I don't mind replacing things like alternator, PS pump, etc. - that's to be expected.

I was thinking maybe an F-250, but any other options will be much appreciated.

yeah, I was leaning towards an F-250 after reading that. Diesel, manual lockers if you'd ever want to use them, and plenty of towing power.

The same argument you make could apply to cars, paintball guns, prostitutes, and firearms.

You have to see what different vehicles sell for in your area. Pretty much any 4x4 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton will do what you want.

well, dunno how much ur towing, but I know even the tundra v8 my step dad used to have was having a hard time towing the little camper, which is why he got the f250.

I'm also going toward the f250 w/ u. My buddy's uncle has a 1970's f250 and that thing is bad as hell, and it still runs perfectly. 4x4 and it's unmatched in pullin.

I wasn't sure if specific makes from specific years were better than others. For example, I've heard Dodge has terrible transmissions. I don't really know as much about trucks as I do cars, so I figured I'd ask.

If you get a stock truck with a manual transmission from any american make, you really shouldn't have any problems. Dodge had problems with their automatics, but pretty much every manufacturer's stick has been fine. Same thing with diesel engines. The 7.3L Powerstroke, 5.9L cummins, and 6.6L duramax are all solid.

If you can find a basic diesel and stick 3/4 ton truck you'll be golden. You have to look around though and see what stuff goes for in your area. Even old diesel trucks sell for pretty good money.
