Don't Ever Lose Your Dinosaur

I just wanted to watch a paintball video then got curious about what a google search for, "paintball," would turn up, and after utter dissapointment decided to try "paintball forum," and surprisingly, instead of the nation, this came up.

I'd like to blame the recession but the fact is many people are working hard and are able to afford playing paintball(among other things). I'll stay watching vids. Unfortunately, life is not unlike this epic comedy; so that like Dr. Doback, if I should cease living tomorrow I will have died devoid of my dinosaur.

TL;DR: Step-brothers is an awesome reminder never to take yourself seriously and enjoy behaving immaturely so long as you don't annoy or harm anyone.

TL;DR Corollary; Paintball is a great sport despite what that tard jokingly posted in the, "paintball talk," section of this very forum. Better than all the others in my humble opinion.

1 for good measure
How yer doin fellas?

Paintball is way more of a sport than golf, and many others for that matter. If anyone says otherwise, they haven't played.

Paintball is just expensive, and the more accessible sports like Soccer and those of the like will remain the most popular.

I think that thread is a bit a joke though, and just about everyone here agrees paintball is a sport.

How's life, mayne?

No Joke. After being out of school for a few years and going back into it - I found tuition costs have doubled. Rent by me has climbed about $300/mo, gas is about 4.25/gal, and car insurance for a 28 year old with a 5 year old economically conscious vehicle is around $800/6mo.

A $75 case of paint per paycheck is the least of the expenses I worry about affording.

That being said- I'm proud to say that my dinosaur is currently in-tact.

Know how the adults in family situations seem to frequently ask where you see yourself in five years?....

The answer I give them stops them dead in their tracks...

....Happy.

you are paying too much, im 26 driving a 95 civic and paying just a little over $50 a month (i do purchase it 6 months at a time) I just called my insurance the other day asking what my rates would go up to if i picked up a 2005 toyota tacoma, a whopping $3 more a month

do you have tickets on your record? if you have tickets and have low deductibles and have some like super insurance coverage i could see that being why its over $100 a month but beyond that, that seems very high

don't ever forget that. People seem to think you have to be important in order to be happy in life and there's so very little truth to it.

No tickets - its just the cost for 300/500/300 insurance with a $500 deductible and being geographically located less than 30 miles from city limits, and under 40 miles from the Loop in Chicago.

For some reason - all my male buddies have roughly the same insurance costs +/- $100 depending on carrier (6mo. interval). Females are about 1/3 lower for the same level of coverage.

I just paid $1600 for a full year of basic coverage on two vehicles. Admittedly, one of them has a commercial policy so i can use it for work and not get my ass sued out from under me(it happened once, and i'm so glad i had it taken care of. it's absolutely worth the extra cost to know i'm covered while working)

Before i turned 25, that price was nearly doubled. However, i only owned one car. In fact, i just sold a car so i should be getting a large sum of money back from my insurance company.

Me too. I pay $500/6 months for full coverage on 2 cars, one of which is a sports car.

going between periods of unemployment and giving college, "the old college try," lol. But I'm able to help my family here n there.

Man when I was 12 or 13 and some of the older cats on here would have life-specifically career-discussions, sure woulda done me some good to pay attention!

Not having a computer, I can't be assed to hurt my eyesight trying to read forum posts, but right now I'm on my sisters lovely IPad. Diddo on the costs associated with paintball, but honestly it's the lack of a decent field close by that kills it for me. I just got a car a few weeks ago, but my driving records a mess, I owe tickets, and drive with a suspended license and without the sr-22 insurance I require...speakin of insurance

I haven't played since 06. I miss the scene, the people, etc, but not the cost and driving 30mins-1.5 hrs each way to a field. I looked for fields when I got down here to florida but there wasn't much of anything.

living is indeed expensive.

Right now - 4year degree in Finance. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a screw-up and have gone about things bass-ackwards. Making a long and dramatic story...short as possible.

Went to college studying engineering.
High school sweetheart (~3.5 yrs?) decides my buddy's woody is nicer
Depressed and 19...I find alcohol and tobacco.
Before losing most of life's ambition, I manage to squeeze out an A.S.
Don't really remmeber much of 19-22
Hit 22 working the same job I'd had since 16.
Decide money is in corporate world.
1 year later, get laid off.
Get brought back.
3 years later at risk of being laid off again.
Get pulled into different dept.
Start paintball again.
Realize I'm older, overweight, and out of shape.
Start Running.
Drop....~50lbs?
Realize that, the lifestyle I want can't be afforded with current job title.

The TRUTH, and the sad one - is that society, at least in a corporate setting, will not allow you to advance without a serious amount of time invested both into the company and office politics...on an associate's degree. A 4 year degree is almost a required check-mark to live a life with a paycheck that doesn't require a punch-card.

I learn from the school of hard knocks...because I'm an idiot, and I've come to accept that...BUT the advice I'll offer to any of our younger participants and readers - DO YOUR TIME EARLY. Go to college, and get your 4 year or skills training. As long as you're shooting for a mid-level prestige degree, it doesn't really matter what its in.

Reasoning - Going back to school after not participating in education for 7+ years is HARD to get back into. For the 15 years of formalized education we receive - reading a text book and retaining the words that come off the page is easy. Once you stop doing that regularly - the skill dulls significantly and its hard to re-sharpen. Not only that - but state schools don't cater to night school students...and one class at my fancy-pants private night-school catering college is about $1k per credit hour after fees (including books).

Take it from someone who has been there - its INFURIATING to know you started in Order Entry - and worked your way up to an Analyst title on your own merits...only to see some 22 year old yahoo with a 4year degree walk in and become someone you're a subordinate to. Be the yahoo who only paid $9k/semester for a full class load. Don't make the same mistakes I did.

After all that - in 5 years, I will be happy...or happier than I am now. Until then, I go out there every 2ish weeks and beat the hell out of everyone that's wearing an armband (assuming I"m not)...knowing that one day in the foreseeable future, I might not have to deplete my "Dye Matrix" savings fund every time I need brakes, books, wedding gifts, or a plane ticket because one of my buddies didn't manage to live through one of those "ya'll come watch me do this!" moments...

but while doing all that... Don't ever lose your Dinosaur.

so what, thats .001% of the people on here?

I think the "old club" can manage 3 whole members

on another note, why do people sometimes say "whole" people as miller used above? It kind of implies that there is a way to have a half person, or a 2/3s person....just wondering

After working in slave labor for a few years and getting laid off, I am now trying to finish my degree. Should be 25-35 hours away from any type of business degree. I can pick from several different types of business degrees though, was leaning towards Economics, but Finance seems tempting as well.

Have you never watched horror movies? Half people are all over the place. They just tend to start to stink after a bit of time.

You also have to remember Medic is so old he is probably molding/decaying already, so he probably isn't a whole person anymore.

Im with ya. Do you ever just think someday if paintball is in my cards there'll be a way to play? I sorta figure I'll be able to play tournament ball sometime between age 25-45.

Damn primmy appreciate the story and advice. Hopefully you helped me steer clear of the School of Hard Knocks, I know I've been taking community college for granted. And I've been wasting enough time. I know if I do things right I'll get my Dino back in time to play competitively

I'm so sorry to hear about your partner,
