How to change my IP address

I tried unplugging my modem/router thing for 30 seconds and 5 minutes. I was also told 8 hours, but that seems extreme. My IP recently changed for some reason and the new IP I have is already banned from a website I go on very often(wasn't me), so I really need it to change. Getting very frustrated and don't know how to change it. I have a MAC computer and its hardwired into the wall, so any ideas?

Call your ISP and ask them what their DHCP release time is. Unplug your modem for that amount of time and then plug it back in (could be 10 minutes, could be 48 hours). Or tell them what happened and see if they can remove that IP from their dhcp scope and then you could do an ip release/renew from your modems onboard maintenance site to get a new IP. Either way, you're going to have to talk to your ISP.

Also, you may want to see if your ISP can contact the website to let them know that IP address is a DHCP address so that the site is no longer blocking whoever it was they were trying to block.

Well I called, and they basically said that I could try doing the ipconfig/renew release thing on a windows computer, which I've tried thousands of times with no luck. They said they didn't know the DHCP release time for the modem, and I should contact motorolla for that, and besides that my only options would be paying for a business account which gives a static IP, or just waiting for the next time I'm assigned a dynamic IP(couple of hours to a couple of days) BUT a lot of the time it will give you the same IP anyway. So I called Motorolla and they aren't available at this time(couldn't even understand the operator), and said to call tomorrow. This. Sucks.

I figure the release time can't be more than 8 hours unless its something crazy, so I'm just going to uplug it over night. If it doesn't work.... $^@&*#^&@*

Ask to talk to their tier2 tech. The techs you spoke to obviously don't know that DHCP release time is configured on the network side, not on the client side. There is nothing that Motorola would be able to tell you, since it only matters how long DNS holds onto your IP and MAC to assign the same IP address to it if you reconnect...

Unless of course they do assign static IP's based on your account...in which case, you're just plain screwed without them giving you a new IP.

Okay well I woke up and re-plugged everything back in, and got a new IP! I guess it was anywhere from 5 minutes to 8 hours.

As for the website, it's Gamebattles.com, and I wasn't even aware you could get banned from porn websites.

How the heck would you get banned from a porno site?

You know what, never mind. I don't even want to know...

By trying to get them to wear condoms obviously.

Anyway of course when I solve one problem like 10 others pop up, and Miller can't help me with these.

ALL problems can be solved with sufficient application of c4.
