Simcity 'nuff said.

Anyone else stupid enough to buy this train wreck of a game? Origin says I've played five hours but I know 4.5 of that was spent watching the loading screen and/or watching the game crash after the server dropped me. I do feel bad for the Maxis employees it must be like how the guys that used to manufacture Zyklon B felt after they spend all that time and effort to develop a great quality pesticide and then the Nazis got their hands on it and ruined their reputation.

EA dun ****ed up... They didn't listen to customer concerns and managed to mess it up beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

It's too bad because it sounds like Maxis did a bang up job on the game itself.

I have it. Was pretty disappointed that I couldn't play the first day. Was able to get on europe east the next day and have been playing a region there by myself. I've lost server connection a few times but it has always got it back in a couple minutes. Haven't had it drop or crash yet.

is it something I could spend a lot of time playing? I got bored with the sims very quickly and haven't played sim city since sim city 2000

A few months ago I broke it out and played a game. It was way easier to play now that i'm not 8 years old; I filled up the city rather quickly, and after that I got bored.

This new one requires internet for DRM protection, but it must also mean it's got something to do with multiplayer, right?

EA has a bunch more NA servers up now and the game is now mostly playable. Simcity isn't The Sims if you liked the actual city building Simcity you'd probably like this one now that I've gotten some play time in with it I'm really liking it. The online play does actually work and I've gotten a game started with my friends and swapping resources back and forth is a nice little dynamic although not so critical you couldn't just play it on your own so DRM strikes again. As a nice little peace offering the latest blog post from Maxis says that EA is now offering everyone that bought Simcity a freebie from the EA catalogue so that's nice and more than I expected from them.

This game is definitely simcity. It has the feel and playstyle of all the old simcities. The ability to share services (ambulances, water, power, etc) is very nice. Its fun trying to get a specialization set up in each city and balancing their needs (tourism/mining/technology/trade/etc). I feel like the smaller plots force you to focus more on improving your city instead of letting it sprawl and cheaply grow with low income low density stuff.

If you just want to make a big city then you probably won't love it. If you like trying to improve and solve the issues your city faces you will love it.

Its a fun game but some of the bugs are making me not want to play it... Plus the city size is really, really ****ing ruining the game for me.
