my first post in years.

but i trust you guys with my cash lmao. worth the money?

HP Pavilion Desktop 8GB Memory 1TB Hard Drive p7-1534 - Best Buy

im looking for something better than what i got (dimension 3000), which this is obviously, mainly for just general all purpose use however if i want to throw a newer game in i want it to be capable to some extent..

i dont want to build because i just dont, i have no problem upgrading memory, or anything else internally if it's needed though... will this do it?

ninja edit: this thread makes me feel old for having to ask someone about technology :3

the video card leaves a bit to be desired.

Other than that - it looks pretty sound as far as a machine goes.

This thing won't scratch an i7, but should give an i5 a good college try. I don't forsee issues with it.

To put the AMD card scheme in layman's terms:

AMD HD -XYZ0

X is your series number. 7 is the current. In most cases - if Y and Z are consistent, a bigger X is better.
Y is your enthusiasm level. 3 is onboard. 5 is media. 6 is "premium media". 7 is budget gamer. 8 is gamer, 9 costs too much
Z is your 'derp' level. 0 and 3 are onboard. 5 is pretty derp. 7 is a C student. and 9 is an honors student.

So... a 5650 would be a 2 generation derpy media card... whereas a 7990 would be your woman's hotter younger sister...who also happens to be an honors student.

Now - "derp" and "media" aren't bad terms... they're just not something I'd be biased towards if you're attempting to run Crysis (whatever number they're on) at Ultimate settings.

"Not bad" would be my verdict. You will need a video card to run anything recent. Windows 8 is hit or miss depending on who you ask. I'd also recommend you keep an eye out for deals on an ssd. For what you want, it'll work.

You should really not be a pussy and build your own though.

haha thanks. i'm not completely stupid as far as pcs go. just havent kept up to date with everything. i have no problem upgrading, so if it's somewhat upgradeable i'm okay with that as well if i'm running low on hardware capability.

and mike, come build it for me then :3

Based on what you had picked out - I didn't believe you to be. I guess...sometimes I just find it easier to communicate component impact or differences in the aforementioned terms. I mean.. Do you want a 2 generation old Derpy onboard girlfriend? Or her younger, smarter, faster, easier to use (/wink /wink) younger sister?

....and...what happens? Usually we settle somewhere in the middle.

haha that wasnt in reference to what you posted, just saying i have the knowledge to be able to upgrade :P i actually appreciate the derp explanation lol as im pretty much limited to knowing what the components do, but not on a technical level (such as why say one gpu is better than another even though they have similar specifications as far as memory, etc.)

Meh, everyone got here before me.

I'll just say according to specs it's got an X16 slot, so you could always put a non-sucky card in it since it only comes with the Trinity one (which isn't great for gaming above minimal settings in a lot of the newest games).

I need someone to go to the gym with to do weights. I miss my old coach. He competed in strongmen competition so we would do 12" log lift, deadlift, sled, clean and press and such (no fixed weights such as smith machine). That was fun.

the hp 22bw. cheap, borderless (almost) and looks good enough for me lol. plus it was the best one I saw that could do 1920x1080 for the price.

aside from the fact that it was an impulse buy and I didn't feel like "looking around" lmao

I did that once with a 21 inch samsung monitor. It's still working really well for me so I can't complain.

My main monitor is a 22 inch ViewSonic and i spent a little bit of time looking for it.

Main monitor is a 24" Samsung w/ 24" Dell beside. The Dell is a FANTASTIC monitor w/ USB hub, adjustable height, etc. My second pc has a 22" Westinghouse monitor that was bought because of it's size more than anything else, as I had limited space to fit a monitor in and it was the largest monitor I could find that would fit without having to actually construct something which just takes too long to me.

so would a card like the GeForce gtx 660 ti be a good option, or are there better? I've only browsed through a few benchmarks, so not too much research time into it. would like to keep it 300 or under (before tax).

It's not a bad card at all. At the same basic price and almost the same performance is the Radeon 7950. I'd prefer the 660 ti since it's 50 watt less power for the same basic level of performance. But either one is fine. 7950 has quite a theoretical bandwidth advantage, but totally doesn't take advantage of it.

I'm still quite happy with my geforce 550ti. I did notice i couldn't run sleeping dogs with all the awesome stuff cranked up though. That's the first game i've found that I can't crank up.

Lol was lookin at the 550 too, though the 660 seemed a better buy for the future a bit as well.
