lets talk about cars, bay-bee

So I know we have a few car people in here, If anyone remembers back when we all started this place I was driving a couple mazda protege 5's. one being gutted and modded slightly for all the funs. After those two cars(and having an RX-7 at the same time) I traded in the two protege 5's for a 2004 STi. around this time I also traded my RX-7 for a paintball package from a friend, couple guns etc.

STi fun: the STi was a blast, took it off road just about once a week, jumped it, did just about anything you can with that car, it was amazing. fast forward about 5 years, got into a little accident with the STi and just couldn't stand to keep it. So i sold it smashed up right out of the body shops lot to a private party. 5 days later a kid from PA shows up in my driveway to drop of my new to me honda S2000

The Honda days: what to say about this car, it attracts attention like no other, from everyone. young boy racers, old men, old ladies, young ladies that just want to ride in something low and without a roof. such an amazing feel to this car, the whole package, engine/suspension/interior. Not much could be better on this one(mods where CF hood and trunk, test pipe, CAI, wheels) many vtec's. after paying this car off and enjoying it, I purchased my next car

the Eight-Six: having my s2000 paid off, why not get myself a "DD" right? so here comes the bright orange 6 speed FR-S. Fun car for sure, but I was bored of it within 3 years, oh well....not much to say about this car other than, stock seats, nice, lack of traction, even nicer.

Back into rotary: after having the FRS and S2000 parked in my garage for a while, I was itching for another new car, thats when I came across something on craigslist that caught my eye. a mint condition 1984 RX-7 with under 50K on it. after a week of going back and forth, we had a trade plus cash worked out to swap the RX-7 for the S2000. and bam, no more s2000. The RX-7 is much fun though, flame spitting, high-revving good old fun. The RX has a bunch of things done to it that I wont get into as non-rotary people really wont know what the hell i'm going on about. basically, its faster than stock, louder than stock, and shoots flames....oh and it backfires about 40% of the time after being shut off, this has become my favorite feature of the car, just watching people hit the deck and think there are gunshots going on around them(one dude hit the deck at the gas station, i actually felt bad because he was probably a vet and that most likely brought up some PTSD flashbacks for him.

AWD yet again: ever since i sold the STi i've said I will one day buy another one. well a couple weeks ago I hit that breaking point and got fed up with the FRS for good, walked into the dealership and said "have any STi's on the lot" to which the reply was not favorable, oh but let me show you this WRX......no thanks, can you get me an STi today or tomorrow? luckily they said yes and after a few hours of paperwork and going back and forth, I was to return tomorrow for my 2018 STi. so now after about 3 weeks with that car, I am NOT bored anymore!

anyway, there's a good chunk of my car history, most of it anyway. for those unwilling to read i'll summarize:

I now have an STi and RX-7 in my garage, loving every minute of it!

so where are my car people? what interesting cars have you owned?

Same color as both of my FR-S's. Had a 13 and a 15 (neighbor dropped ladder on the 13, insurance wouldn't paint whole car so I traded in on the 15) bright orange 6-speed. Needed more power and traded the 15 in on a 2012 Mustang GT 6-speed premium + performance package which I currently have as my DD.

My nice car is a 2007 Corvette Z-51 6-speed (bright orange, too).

I had a few bright cars, and always enjoyed them, I just wanted something slightly stealthy this time around

I drove my friends fancy new Subaru home from chicago this weekend. I didn't touch the gas the entire time and it determine the distance I was from other vehicles, and my speed, compared to them. the mirros lit up when things were in my blind spot. the future is so cool!

pretty neat, I did not get the limited so I do not have adaptive cruise or blind spot detection.

He said it was an extra $5,000. That's really expensive but if you do a lot of highway driving I feel like it's worth it. Plus the cost of it is only gong to go down.

yep, with the STI it was about 5K, different seats, keyless start, and all the blind spot stuff......all things I didn't really want...well maybe the seats, but i'll probably get some eventually anyway

Yeah, my ideal car has a manual transmission, manual seats, manual windows, decent enough sound system w/ Bluetooth (my 1 technology I do want outside the engine), decent mirrors with the blind spot mirror, no backup sensors/camera, no wrong lane detection, and a fully computer controlled engine & braking system (I like the gas efficiency of direct injection, and I like ABS). I could do without traction control since I live where snow & ice is unheard of, but if I lived where there was more than 2 seasons (summer, and spring, no fall or winter here), I'd probably want that too.

oh no, I miss manual throttle bodies i miss having no electronic nannies. its actually crazy, remember my 04 STi with absolutely no electronic anything, even a manual center diff, going to this new STi with electronic everything. it was so direct and instant, it did what i wanted it to and that was it.

I just cant get used to the delay, electronic throttle bodies all seem to have this delay, or at least the computer keeping you from dumping fuel right away. this is one of the many reasons I loved the S2000, everything was just sooo direct and instant, same can be said for my RX7. nothing puts a bigger smile on my face that being able to bang a 2-3 shift in the little 1.2L RX7 and chirp the tires, all while shooting a fireball out the rear. that 4-barrel opens when I want it to, I even removed the vacuum secondaries and put in mechanical ones, just to be able to get the power, when i wanted it and not when the car deemed it was time

living in buffalo for the last 18 years or so(from here originally, i'm 35 now) I never drive with traction control. it makes it harder for me to control a car, i'm so used to having no electronic helpers, that when the car starts to slide, instinct kicks in and i countersteer etc. the nannies do not like this and it usually makes it worse, and then ends in my mother f-ing the car up and down lol. or if we are talking about the case of my FR-S, the nannies felt the car become airborne slightly in the rear, automatically turned on the traction and stability, and sent me out of control backwards into a bridge abutment. that was a fun night. mind you I was already sideways going around a corner when i crested a ridge and the car decided to take over had it not kicked in, the car would have never been to the shop for a new trunk/bumper/tail lights.

I'm an analog person, just happened to grow up with technology(its kind of my job) but as for my cars, i'd much rather have no electronic anything, hell I can even do without a radio.

I'm ok with the minute (in most) delay in order to get the much better gas mileage and power that direct injection offers. Although have you driven one of the EcoBoost Stangs? OMG...such a HUGE delay that I nearly stalled them EVERY time I drive one. Literally you hit the gas and can COUNT before the things start spinning up. Absolutely horrible job of programming the ECU.
And it's not just one, I've test driven 3 off showroom floors, all were like that, and I know at least 2 people that bought them and said the same until they had the ECU reflashed.

Unless I'm on a track, music is an absolute necessity to me, and has to be good music, so I can live without a radio too, since there's literally no good radio stations on earth. 99.9% talking and commercials, with only the occassional music.

I liked the location of the traction control on the FR-S. Soon as the engine started, I could turn it off while going to grab the stick. I don't know that I ever drove it with TC on. I do prefer driving without traction control, but like my Mustang with it's REALLY poor weight balance can get to be a bit to handle in poor weather (snow & ice, not rain...people in this area do seem to think rain means bad weather). My Vette, I'd never have issues because it's simply too easy to predict what it'll do since it's got the 50-50 weight balance.

Back in my active days here I mainly drove Hondas. Dabbled with a 92' foxbody Mustang and a DSM for a while. Oh yeah had many motorcycles around this time too.

Kept driving Hondas while I was a poor college kid. When I moved to Colorado I bought my first Subaru which was a 2002 WRX. I ****ing loved that car so much. More than life itself at one point. Unfortunately a year and a half later it was stolen and considered a total loss. I took the insurance money and bought a few more WRXs that I ended up hating and selling right away. Bought an 06' STI, still liked my stolen bugeye better so I sold the STI as well. Drove a beater Rav4 for over 2 years up until a few months ago. Headgasket popped so I sold that and bought one of my dream cars...

I now own a bone stock 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. I'm the second owner, always adult driven. High miles at 175k but I'll take that over a modded and abused one with less miles. Right now it's my daily driver since the Rav4 crapped out. I'm looking for an older truck or SUV again for a beater/2nd car.

My plans for the Evo are pretty modest for now once I find another vehicle. Stock Evo 9 turbo, ID 1000s, walbro 255, turboback exhaust, intake, lower and upper intercooler piping topped off with an E85 tune. Shooting for 400+ whp, nothing too crazy. I'm hoping to build a garage or carport on my house next year to make working conditions more manageable.

The Evo is so much better than WRX/STI.

I so agree. I was so angry with Mitsubishi that they discontinued the EVO.

Also, in related news, I get to drive a McLaren MP412C Sunday in anger!!
