Thumbs up Canada Kicks BUTT!!

I love being a Canadian.
Not only did one of our biggest store chains start to dedicate a section of their catalogue to paintbaill, our Supreme Court has a brain!!

As of March 30, ,2004 the Canadian Supreme Court announced that using peer to peer networking to share music files for personal use is LEGAL!

I'll say it again: DOWNLOADING MUSIC IN CANADA IS LEGAL!!

I love being a Canuck!!!

Canada here I come eh! I download a song every now and then, but downloading doesn't matter a whole lot to me. I mean I think it should be legal, but I don't think people should abuse it either.

Canada = Free health care

My family = Uninsured poverty

This might be a sign...

well the reason canada has all the cool stuff(free health care, good welfare, neato supreme court) is because they spend like $10(that's canadian dollars too)a year on defense. well, they do have the mountees, and they have cool hats.

That's a tough question. Let's start with the basics.
Right now $1.00Cdn is about $0.75US
Minimum wage in Canada is (I think) $8.50/hr.
Depending on which province you live in taxes will vary a bit. Right across the board is a 7% GST (Goods and Services Tax) that's applied to everything except food essentials. So if you buy a 250ml (8 oz) chocloate milk, it's a snack and you pay the 7%. Buy a 1L (1 quart) it's food, no tax. No matter how big a bag of potatoe chips, it's a snack.
Then you have PST (Provincial Sales tax). It goes on everything, and varies by province. I'm in Ontario and we have 8% PST. In Alberta the have 0% PST. So I pay an aditional 15% for everything paintball. All taxes go for the usual government stuff, including Healthcare. There are some things NOT covered by Healthcare, Plastic surgery as an example.

So:
Come to Canada get part time job at $8.50/hr and work maybe 30 hours a week- $255.00. Get paid bi-weekly= $510.00
Less the government cut of about 15% = $433.5
Monthly income= $867.00
Rent(avg)= $500.00/month
Food (avg) $300.00/month
Phone(no long distance) $ 52.00/month
Basic cable $ 52.00/month

That leaves you a total of -$37.00

Getting a roommate cuts bills in half so you only have to pay out $452.00 leaving you $415.00.

Now the 30 hours/week is above normal for where I live. Most part time jobs here are 15 to 20 hours/week or $433.5 to $578.00/month.

That doesn't include transportation. A monthly bus pass costs $62.00/month for an adult. Taxis cost start at $2.75 + $0.50/100 meters (300 feet). So for me to go from my place on the edge of town to the mall is about $15.00 one way.

Rents vary according to where you live and size of accomodations. My rent is $610.00/month for a 2 bedroom apartment. The same size place closer to the mall is another $60.00 more. Go to a real city like Toronto, for this price you can get a bachelor apt.

Over all, is compareable to living in the US, the biggest difference is the value of the dollar compared to elsewhere.

The courts reason behind allowing file sharing to be legal is beyond brilliant. They pointed to public libraries. Buildings FULL of copyrighted material have photocopiers. They aren't sued for letting people make copies. Why should filesharing be different?

Hey Hey Hey.... The Mounties Are NOT for defense.... But should a snowstorm come a' knockin', those mounties'll have your driveway shoveled in no time!

Yeah, taxes in Ontario is aboot %15. NO ONE may *****, I'm pretty sure we pay THE MOST taxes ANYWHERE.

But yes... Free Health Care, Polite People, Plenty of trees and wildlife such as beavers, people generally like us, LOW crime, Massive country, Sexy girls , and a Country-Wide school Curriculum ensuring bright kiddies...
Not all of the reasons I love being Canadian, but hey I'm just naming a few .

Yea, but America is turning into a crap hole really fast. Too many laws taking away personal freedoms are coming out now. The FCC is a great example of that. If they get their way, kiss all form of media as we know it goodbye. American media is going to turn into Sesame Street, i think i'll be moving if that happens.

Actually they call Candian bacon ham, cuz it is ham. I've heard a whole story, bla bla.

And sure, you might not say aboot, but you crazy Canucks say about REAL funny...haha, everytime I watch snocross or hockey the announcers and racers/players who are Canadian stick out like a sore thumb when they talk. EX: Blair Morgan and the annoucers on Fox Sports Net that annouce Red Wings games.

lol mongo you are right... we have no real military here. and our navy is a joke. we seriously only have 2 subs and they are both diesel, circa 1960 usa handmedowns i believe.

but other then that canada is pretty cool (winter here sucks though) even if we are america jr.
