Math Help, Please!

Ok, we're doing circle proofs and I am absolutely stuck.

Given: In circle O, diameter AC is extended to D such that AD is perpendicular to DF.

Prove: AF * EC = AC * FD

Please help! I'm really stuck, and it's due tomorrow. I just need someone to get me started.

Hmm, that looks like it will actually help. The only thing is, how would I prove EC perp to AF?

Something about the triangle's sides being 180 degrees, and eC originating from line OD (The radius)

Ah yes! Brilliant! Ok, I see. It's perpendicular because the angle intercepts a semi-circle. Thanks a ton, I may be able to finish the rest. You helped a ton, Xley.

i know why they are perp., the angle has the diameter in a half circle

Aw man...our class is a day or two behind yours cause our teacher told us next class we start circle proofs. Right now we're doing geometric means and similar triangle and stuff. I remember last month when we were doing congruent triangle proofs and we were debating on whether ASS(angle-side-side) really works. It actually does on right triangles lol.

I believe chords (EC) are perpendicular to secant lines (AF). so that makes a 90* angle.....

but without any side lengths, i'm not sure.....

if you had lengths...then you could say that Triangle AFD is a 30 60 90 triangle....and you can go from there....

You have to make some kind of porportion to prove the difference in the multiplication so that they are equal....

I dont remeber any of that! But if you think that is hard just wait till alg 2. Factoring, synthetic division, imaginary numbers, it sucks.
