I own 17 comps that my dad just as I say 'takes in from the trash' and I'm pretty sure I could figure out what's the problem after an extensive search of your CPU. But just from slowing down I'm figuring that your computer is either old or has a virus. You should send it back to the person or company you bought it from.

if you download spybot search and destroy or any other spyware destroyer that should help the internet problem and defragment the hard drive to free up memory space

you want to do an extensive search of his CPU? ok i call shenanagins in this guy.

CPU=central processing unit, which is a chip about 1.5"-2" square and like .2" high not including the pins. it is the main data processing station in your computer, nothing that can be searched. computers are often mistaken for being called CPU's by people who are relatively new to computers

anyways, when your computer starts messing up, does it say "system low on virtual memory" or anything similar? Sometimes when stuff like that happens because your compuer is basically running out of memory and cant keep up with what you want to do. To fix the problem there are a few things to do along with what the others said (adaware.com, defrag, etc.) and the most prominent thing i recommend is buying more memory, which would free up your system from a lot of strain and make it run far smoother

Dell is notorious for loading your computer up with crap that you don't need or want before sending it to you. I'm willing to bet that if you hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager, then looked at the "processes" tab, there would be quite a long list of unnecessary things running. A friend of mine gave me her dell this past January with the same complaints you have. I just convinced her to let me re-format, then re-install only the programs she needed, and it's been smooth ever since. Of course you don't HAVE to format, but it's an option.

My advice to you is have someone local (preferably a friend) that knows what they're doing look at it. You also may want to listen to Spudchucker, but please ignore Fastecho419. I think spud's right, this guy is all shen's

yea im not exactly an expert on comps but i took a year long computer service class last year and i run my entire business by computer, so ive had to deal with several problems in the past.

like allstar said your comp is just prolly loaded with so much crap that it runs out of processing space on the RAM after half an hour and from there computer is forced to use your hard drive as memory (virtual RAM) because harddrives are no where near as fast as RAM (its instant) it takes a very long time for the info to process. if you dont reboot you may find that your computer actually freezes from totally running out of resources.

just go through with what allstart said, then look through add/remove programs to see just what you have installed that you dont need. if you see anything associated with gator or bonzai buddy or any other retarded junk like that just delete it from your computer

That's a good start. Try that and if you don't see better performance, get someone with experience to look at it.

While working on the friend I mentioned in a previous post's Dell, I found that they basically idiot-proof a lot of their junk software. The software is actually stored twice on the machine, once in the form of the actual installed program, and once in a hidden and compressed form (probably several .bin files within some remote folder or the windows directory). They include a registry key that checks to see if their programs are installed upon boot-up, and if it's not or has been moved, it re-installs itself from the backed up compressed copy. It's actually a very good system, just extremely irritating.

Hopefully I didn't discourage you

The average PC user doesn't need an overclocked processor. In most cases, the only thing you gain with overclocking is more heat and bragging rights.
