i think it was a BAD idea to send out troops to iraq.. but since they are already in iraq bush should keep them there to finish the mess he started.

i think we should go into iraq, but we werent ready yet. we need other countries in there as well, and better global support. we jumped in too fast. when we rebuild iraqs goverment, does anyone really expect it to hold longer than 2 days? some guy will just take over and more radical groups will form to support him and crap like that. iraq isnt ready for democrasy yet, and the US wasnt ready to enter. right now we're confused and so are they. we dont have much of a plan and its just a mess.

No one will take over, we won't just pull all of our troops out, the new government will just start working. We'll still be there.

Airsofter1, you're retarded, if Bush went for oil, why are our gas prices nearing $3.00 a gallon? That's what I thought.

Back on topic for a minute...

My best friend just got home from Iraq last Thursday.

He's in the 82nd Airborne, B Co. 2-505 PIR. They were in the Sunni Triangle for about four months because some Virginia National Guard unit sucked so bad when they were being trained at Ft. Bragg in December. They had to hold the NG unit over here for extended training and sent the 2-505 over instead.

He was saying that its actually worse than what you hear on the news. They leave out the number of injuries per day, plus they lose a few KIA's in the mix here and there. He also said that almost every base we have comes under some sort of attack daily, and that convoys are routinely fired upon (he was riding in the last truck in the convoy and watched 62mm mortar rounds walk in on the truck, missing it by about thirty feet at the closest.)

Also, he said they were more afraid of getting shot by some National Guardsman or Reservist than an insurgent. For example, he said they were sitting at the chow hall one morning, and a convoy escorted by Marine Reservists rolled in, and one of the .50 cal gunners on one of the humvees AD'd (accidental discharge) the M-2. He also said when training them for room clearing, they'd run into the room firing their M-16's from the hip and pointing them in unsafe directions (such as at the guy in front of them,) basically he said they wouldn't be surprised if there was a "friendly-fire" incident after they left because they were the only active-duty unit stationed at that base. Now its nothing but Nat'l Guard and Reserves.

He got lucky and only had to be there for 4 months instead of a year, however, you also have to realize that he just got home from a 7-month tour in Afghanistan in late August of last year, and was only home for about three and a half months before getting shipped out again. I think he got lucky overall, because he got deployed to Afghanistan after the invasion, and was over there when we kicked off the invasion of Iraq, so he gets to miss out on the really hairy stuff.
