scariest moment in a car

Ok I dont know how many people will like this thread but I thought of it while I was reading another car thread. (specifically someone said that the point of having an exotic car was going fast and taking turns at 60mph) Well I thought Id ask people to tell their (THEIRS NOT SOMEONE THEY KNOW) scariest car moment. Heres mine.

I was riding with a friend who just recently got his licensce but decided he had to go fast. Now we were going towards his house from mine and about 5 minutes from my house is this big really sharp S turn. We were going 110 (this is in a Volvo Sedan mind you) and we come to the S turns. His brother in the back seat starts screaming that theres an S turn coming so the driver still tries to take it. He did slow down a little and as we took the turn I looked over and noticed the speedometer was at 95mph... I was terrified by this time... The car starts sliding around the first turn and he completely loses control. HE manages to get it around this one but on the next turn we jump the ditch. I slammed my head on the dash becoming unconcious(sp). The next thing I remember is waking up laying face up in the field we had came into. Both my friends were over me and I really didnt remember where I was. I remember the whole wreck up until then though is the scary part.

Now this is only the scariest time for me because it is the only time we have been in a wreck when I have been clear minded. (the only other bad one I had I was drunk...)

we were coming back from a family party and we were turning onto the parkway. my dad by accident went into the wrong lane (we were going north and the lane thing he turned into was the one that goes south). its a good thing my mom grabbed the steering wheel and turned. we went over the beggining of the divider thing where its a > kind of. we were yards from the other cars hood

Right down the road from me is a road named WPA road (I'm sure you can find a map of it if you don't believe my story.) Anyways, the car that is now mine, used to be my father's. It is a 1985 Mazda RX-7 with a bunch of mods.

Anyways, one day a few years back, my dad just got his Hoosier DOT street slicks mounted up and wanted to test them out.

Well, at a certain point on WPA road, there is a 90* bend. Literally. It is a two lane road with no shoulders, and the posted speed limit for this turn is 10mph.

So, there we are, my dad and I, hauling butt down this little dilapidated road barreling towards the turn. I knew that my dad was going to take it really, really fast. I held on as we approach. About 150-200 feet away from the turn, by dad brakes pretty hard, from 90 to 55.

When I looked over and saw the speedometer was at 55mph, I though we were going to wind in the ditch on the other side of the road. My dad moves into the wrong lane, dives into the corner, hits the apex corner, and exits perfectly back into the left lane.

Oh my God, it was the craziest thing I have ever felt in my life. Taking a 90* turn that is on a 2 lane road at 55mph has to be one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life.

BTW, for reference, the fastest my dad has ever taken that turn in his STi was at 45, and he hung a tire off the road while exiting. Having a car that can handle is so awesome. Heh.

Anyways, that had to be the scariest/coolest moment of my life. Sorry for the long post. I'll try to find a map of WPA road for you guys...

*EDIT - I found a map of the turn I am talking about. Check it out! http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...&addtohistory=

Okay, so the link isn't working. Where it asks to type in all the stuff, type in "WPA Road" "Des Allemands" "La" "70030" Then, it should bring up a series of small pictures. At the bottom of that page, it should say "Show next" or something like that. Go to the next page, and click on one of those. Of course, you can click on any one of the pictures and just move is south until you see the corner, but the pictures I just directed you to has it first try.

Well, basically one night early last year, like in FEB or something. I was heading home from my bros house at around 2am, and I was kind day dreaming. Well I ended up almost going right by my turn, so without even registering the speed I was at (maybe 50mph) I tried to immideatly turn almost 90 degrees. Well the od part was the tires gripped, but they were sliding like sideways on the road, almost like the entire car is skipping up and down while it goes sideways. Well, basically I did that, recovered SOMEHOW, then over-corrected when I shot back the other way and ended up blasting into someones yard at about 45mph sideways. I hit the fence and smashed it, then the tires hit a pile of steel I-Beams and I rolled it 2 and a half times. It ended up tires smoking in the middle of the yard on the passenger side frame. I got out and jogged home.

Another scary moment I had was with the same friend driving. This was back when he had his permit and his mom was in the passenger seat instead of me. Anyways we were talking as he was driving and for some reason he said something that I thought was deserving of a slap. (from here you can already tell I cause this) so I lean up and slap him. As he looks back he lets the car drift into the other lane as he does this the side of his car makes contact with an SUV. We all are thrown sideways and the car made a perfect 180* spin. the SUV was thrown into the ditch on contact since he was already riding the white line. The man gets out and is like a 6'4" body builder and my friend is terrifed. The man comes up to my friend and says these words (I realize how fake this will sound but we still joke about it today) "I dont have insurance so if you just drive away now nothing will happen" LMAO my friend was to scared to even knod he just jumped in the car and drove off. We still have fun telling that story.

There was about a 20 foot ditch maybe 25 and it was pretty rigid..I broke through the guard rail and had half the car hanging over the side...more like just the front 2 wheels but dern close for my car. never really been bad...was in the car behind when my friend rolled his mustang that was bad too.

MY scariest one was when i was about 10, there used to be a sharp turn onto my road(they have since widened it) and if u went straight it was atleast a 60* Angle dropoff to a house thats down there(Kinda like a mini cliff, with tree) and so my dad in his Ford 4x4 decided to be a bit cocky and while not exceeding the speed limit, he went faster than you should on an icy road in a blizzard, and as we took the turn the car slid and was literally 3 feet from going off the road and rolling off of it...I screamed like a pussy!

My scariest moment is easy. I was driving to Louisville for a soccer tournement. We were about half an hour away from Louisville and me and pbmoto were sittin in the back of his dads audi a4. My dad had said that he wanted to tell us one of his many stories so once we finished the DVD we reminded him to tell the story. He had just started telling the story when pbmoto saw a semi coming from the other side of the highway. His dad, who was driving, saw it right after but wasn't quite sure what to do. We knew that we were screwed no matter what we did unless the truck changed its line. When the semi came up on to our side of the highway it shifted slightly to our left, its right. The we hugged the rail and accelerated (pbmoto's dad is a good driver, he shifted from 5th to 3rd to accelerate faster). As soon as the truck got passed us I whipped around in my seat just in time to see the semi run head on into another semi. Debris went everywhere. The engine and under-carraige (sp) stayed on the highway but the cab and the back of the truck flipped over the guiderail. We stopped and called 911. Police were there in a few minutes (there was a state police station at one of the nect 2-3 exits). Another driver behind the semi that was hit got a peice of debris through the windshield and died instantly. The driver of the semi that was hit was air-lifted to the hospital. The driver of the semi that crossed lanes died. I was interviewed by a few T.V. news stations and so was pbmoto and his dad, my dad didnt really want to get interviewed. After we got back pbmoto's dad had some people that he works with do some numbers and they concluded that we were only feet/inches and milliseconds from getting hit.

That about covers that, no comparison from any other accidents.

The WHOLE roof was totally smashed in and neither of us got one scrape.I had my head shoved in between my legs until the cops came and cut the roof off so I could move again. That was just crazy and still today it doesn't seem like it happened. It still seems like a dream.Hmmm.

I'm taking the recycling to the recycling center. To get there you have to go in this park which has a little road going around the field which is the park. So i'm going along at 30 on this pretty small road, suddenly i start to fishtail because the road turns from pavement into gravel in the middle of the turn. I'm fishtailing, and being a kid with his license for 2 months, i dont know what to do, so i just start spinning the wheel someway... i dont really remember. There's like a sortof hill/embankment/ditch where it goes down like a ditch about a foot, then comes back up into a 45 hill. I go in that in some direction. While i was starting to fishtail i think "Aww ****, here it comes" and tense up, right hand on the wheel, and i take my left hand and grab onto the roof/inside (the window was open) Then everything turns into a blur sort of. The car goes up the embankment or something. I see blue, brown, blue, brown, green, brown, brown, brown. Somewhere in one of the brown/blues i feel the car roll over my hand. Didnt really hurt at the time, it was just like "Huh... it just rolled over my hand... how bout that....." So the car has stopped rolling. i'm drivers side up. I see dirt smashed through the passenger side window. I look up and the roof is caved in less than an inch from my head. I turn off the car (i dont think it was running, but i turned it off anyway) I look in the back seat and there was the drivers ed manual and i sorta laughed at that. I unbuckle, climb out the window and go to the nearest house. No ones home, great. I go to the next nearest house. Someones there. I'm like "uhh... see that car over there..... yeah......." So they call the ambulance and my parents. My mom is 70 miles away at work and my stepdad doesnt give a **** enough to come out so i'm there by myself and with the people who's house it was and the cops start asking me questions. Then i go to the hospital and all that bull****. Next day a cop comes to my house to write tickets. $60 ticket for speeding, $120 ticket for speeding beyond reasonable (apparantly the speed limit was 5 mph, unposted) a $250 ticket for negligent driving and a $500 ticket for reckless driving. The points totaled up to 15. In MD it's 12 points and you get your license revoked. I talked to my friend the next day, he said one of his friends saw it and said i flipped end over end and rolled some. Apparantly until they got the call from the house i went to, they had the hellicopter coming in thinking i was dead or something. I tell him to tell his friend to keep his mouth shut. I take the tickets to court. The cop didnt show up. I got off simple as that. Even if he had shown up, he wouldnt have won because there were no witnesses. Hail to the system :-P

one day on the way home from work, i was turning onto another road and all of a sudden i watched my tach peg 7000k rpms and heard the tires screaming like a mofo...i was tired as hell and didn't expect that to happenand the car went nuts and almost took itself into the median...luckily i reacted fast and killed the cars power...i sat there for a sec and looked around for any cops..lol...started it back up and thought i destroyed something cuz the mtor was ratteling like a mofo

pulled it into a parking lot and pulled the valve covers..turned out the rockers didn't really like the over rev it did when the carbs throttle stuck...10 minutes later i had it fixed and was ready to drive off..not a fun experience

A few weekends ago I was doing about 150 on the freeway in my Volvo S80 at 1am while on my way to street racing. I came around a corner and there was a wall of traffic dead stopped in the middle of the freeway due to a crash up ahead. I had to slam on the brakes, but that didn't seem to do the trick while still going 150. I slowly pumped them and swirved off into the left shoulder before almost slamming into another car while I was still doing around 120 or so. Good thing for 4-wheel disc brakes.

The scariest moment for me was the first time I drove to Taco Bell. It was like 1 at night and I was high. It was crazy.

My scariest moment in a car was with my grandma. Shes slow but she sucks so she crashes at like 5 mph, its really funny, then she farts like she lost her sphincter, they smell terrible but she never lets us open the windows cus of pollution. They dont just smell bad but they're loud too!! So we always listen to old people music and she doesnt let us open the windows cus of pollution or something. I always think I'm gonna die whenever I get in the car with her.

dude no u didnt..your pro says ur 14 years old...n e wayz...there is NO WAY you are going to get a impreza (or any other normal car) on 2 wheels unless you hit a curb or such. The center of gravity is to low and the wheels dont have enough traction to keep the weight of the hole car on there. It might have felt like you were on 2...but its only the car shifting the wieght. When you dont have a car designed for racing (impreza for example) the suspention is not set corectly to go fast around corners...so it will shirft wieght like mad....

This isnt really a scary moment...but it did get my heart pumping....

My dad bought a Nissan 350z about half a year ago...right about when I got my temps ....never the less I was REALLY happy. After a few months of learning to drive a manual (which I just now found out your not alowed to drive a manual with your temps haha oh well) My dad really wanted to push the car to its limits. If any of you know the 350z...it is truly a sports car. It has stock 287 hourspowre...but my dad added these grounding cables which push the HP to around 300 (the cables basicly ground the engine so the spark plugs can give more of a spark to burn the fuel better or sumthign like that....dont yell at me..i have NO idea spicificly what it does but it is something like that lol)...it has a freakin STIFF suspention...if you ever go over a bumpy road your bouncing all over the place...extra wide back tires to get some good traction...and a 6 speed transimition...so its a fast car. Me and my dad decided to take it to this road track just north of columbus. There were other cars out there and they were flying...so we got paid for and got a lil talk about the track and they let us go...man was it a blast...first thing my dad floored it...spun the tires a bit and we took of...my dad gassed the car before...but never this much...he red lined in first gear in less then a second (there is a lil red LED light that we set to flash at 6500 RPM so we dont mess up the engine)....after my dad went flying around the track a few times....then it was my turn. I took it slow the first lap....going 60 around the corners (other cars where going like 80)..but then I hauled it on down the straight away...i got up to 130 then slowed down for the first turn......well when your going that fast...the brakes are even more touchier (4 disc brakes) the wheels locked up for a second and the anti lock breaks kicked in...once we started skidding though i led up on the brakes and saw i was comin to fast into the corner....i started to turn and the back end of the car started to fish tail.....there wasnt a wall around us...so i wasnt really concerned...but i really didnt want to run the car off the track or else my dad would get kinda pissed....so we were sliding side ways heading for the grass...so i slammed on the gas hoping it would give me a lil push to keep me from going from the grass...it did...but it put me into a spin...we must have spun around like 2 1/2 times the came to a stop lol...my dad was like...keep going keep goin! cuz there were other cars going around at the time.

It wasnt really scary..but it was exciting cuz i just spun out the car going like 90...and the best part is i didnt have to worry about getting in trouble with the police cuz it was on a legal road track

I don't have many scary moments. but about maybe 2 years ago i was near the lambourghini dealer in marysville, ohio (leagest in the nation). well I see a yellow lambourghini go flying past us on the highway. He was doing at least 100. well there were a lot of cars and he was just swurving past them. He almost hit one but the other car moved. well the scary part was you know it's late at night. so i was pretty out of it. and you just see this light going flying past you. eh, i guess not scary but it was cool.

Never really been scared, i'e done a 360 spin in an Explorer, flipped a snowmobile, lost and regained control of a snowmobile doing about 40, and i've gone for a ride with a guy who has had all kinds of race car training(he is the owner of an original 289 Cobra). I actually had a lot of fun, he showed me what happens if you don't use the e-brake properly, what happens if you take a turn too fast, and he took me through some curves at about 80 in his E55 AMG. I was holding on, but I wasn't really scared. If anything it was a great learning experience. He taught me that if you blow a tire you should speed up before you slow down and lots of other neat tips. Other then that I have been pretty good.
