Unless you could download somewhere totally illegally then no, your going to have to pay the money.

you have to register using the CD code. the only way around that is to either edit the code(there are programs to do it) or to download a crack. both are illegal and immoral(stealing)

putting in a serial code thats another person used doesnt matter. As long as you dont register it online you'll be fine. If you really need help finding a copy to download PM me. I wouldnt install Win XP Pro with SP1.

Unless you have a crappy ISP that looks down on piracy.

Right. As long as you ACTIVATE Windows and not REGISTER then it'll work. As for other OS's, there's always Linux. It's free, but most people don't know how to work it.

And as for stealing WinXP, well I really don't think it's stealing. There is no way in hell Windows XP is worth $200+, so in a way Microsoft is the only theif here. Not to mention the fact that Bill Gates stole the original software for Windows from Apple who had stolen it from Xerox. Or something similar to that.

In conclusion, Microshaft sucks.

i know how to use linux, it's not that difficult, actually, it's on my system now, but my system noesn't meet the system requirements, so it can't boot (long story) so im just going to go with xp

and yeah, microsoft is a thief, so i try to bootleg all their products i could until i gave that whole sport up.

Ummm....wtf? What distro of Linux are you running? There is almost no way in hell that your comp can run WinXP but not Linux. Linux can be run on basically every computer ever made. The core for Linux could probably fit on a floppy disk or something.

red hat 8. i dunno, i was told it may have been a hardware problem, so i pulled all my networking cards and sound cards ect.

i partioned all the drives properly too. like this:

/dev/hda1 /boot 100mb
/dev/hda2 / 18000 mb
/dev/hda3 swap 512 mb

it's all right, it just doesn't boot up, and the boot disk doesn't work either. i've tried both GRUB and LILO, neither work

EDIT: im reinstalling it now. this time giving the boot partition way more than it should need, heres how it looks:

/dev/hda1 /boot 500mb
/dev/hda2 / 18000 mb
/dev/hda3 swap 512 mb

right now it's installing linux itself on dev/hda2, this better work, or im gunna try mandrake, and then i'll try winxp.

edit edit: nope still nothing. now after bittorrent gets done with mandrake, i'll give that a try.

Ok this thread is getting over my head. I might know where you can get a copy of the corporate edition that doesnt require activation. hint hint.

i have a computer wiz friend who has the default windows code that youre supposed to use if the one on the box fails (hes a technician) and only techincians have it cause you know how bad it would be if everyone had it. So anyway, he just gave me xp on the default code, so according to mr gates i paid for windows and paid for some techy to fix the bug his cd had
